Weather – Unseasonal Rain Brings Cooler Temperatures Across Maharashtra
Weather – Unseasonal showers have led to a noticeable dip in temperatures across most parts of Maharashtra, with the exception of the Vidarbha region. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light rainfall is expected to continue in parts of the state, including the Greater Mumbai region, on Tuesday, March 31.

Rain and Thunderstorm Activity in Coastal Areas
The IMD has indicated that Mumbai and nearby Palghar are likely to experience light rain accompanied by thunder. In Thane, weather conditions may turn slightly more intense, with the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and brief spells of gusty winds in isolated areas. Residents in these regions have been advised to remain cautious, especially during sudden weather changes.
Alerts Issued Across Multiple Regions
Weather alerts have been issued across several parts of Maharashtra as changing atmospheric conditions continue to influence the region. A yellow alert has been announced for districts in South Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada, indicating the likelihood of moderate weather disturbances such as light to moderate rainfall and occasional lightning.
Meanwhile, an orange alert has been declared for parts of North Maharashtra and Pune, where more severe conditions, including the possibility of hailstorms, are expected. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and advising citizens to stay updated with official forecasts.
Western Disturbances Influencing Weather Patterns
Meteorologists have attributed the current weather activity to the presence of two active western disturbances affecting large parts of the country. These systems are expected to bring rainfall to northwest India between March 30 and April 4, with their impact extending into Maharashtra.
The influence of these disturbances has already been observed through scattered hail incidents in some areas of the state. Experts suggest that isolated regions may continue to witness similar events over the next few days.
Drop in Day Temperatures Across Cities
The recent spell of rain has resulted in a decline in maximum temperatures in several cities. Mumbai recorded slightly lower daytime temperatures on Monday, with Santacruz registering 32.9 degrees Celsius and Colaba touching 33 degrees Celsius.
Other cities, including Pune, Jalgaon, Mahabaleshwar, Nashik, and Sangli, also experienced a drop of over one degree Celsius. Rainfall measurements highlighted the intensity of showers in some areas, with Pune recording 26.2 mm of rain and Lohegaon receiving 36 mm.
Continued Rainfall Expected Until Midweek
The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast that Mumbai will likely see light rainfall until Thursday. Similar weather conditions are expected to persist in Palghar during this period.
In Thane, Tuesday may bring lightning and light winds, followed by a higher chance of light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday. These changing weather patterns suggest that the impact of the current system will continue for the next few days.
Districts Under Orange Alert
Several districts have been placed under an orange alert due to the risk of more intense weather events. These include Jalgaon, Nashik (including ghat regions), Ahilyanagar, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, and Hingoli.
Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions, especially in regions prone to hail or strong winds, which may affect agriculture and daily activities.
Yellow Alert for Coastal Konkan Region
In the South Konkan region, districts such as Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg remain under a yellow alert until Thursday. Weather forecasts indicate the likelihood of lightning, gusty winds, and intermittent light to moderate rainfall in these coastal areas.
Officials continue to urge residents to stay alert and follow updates issued by the weather department as conditions evolve.
