Security – Two Insurgents Arrested as Arms Seized in Manipur Operations
Security – Security forces in Manipur carried out a series of coordinated operations on Tuesday, leading to the arrest of two active members linked to the Kangleipak Communist Party (Apunba) in Imphal East district. The development was confirmed through an official statement, which detailed both the arrests and the recovery of arms and explosives during follow-up searches.

Arrests in Imphal East District
According to officials, one of the individuals taken into custody has been identified as Thokchom Tompok Singh, aged 27, a resident of Chana Mayai Lelkai. He was apprehended from his residence during a targeted operation. The second suspect, Urikhinbam Brijeshrajan Meitei, also known as Abaicha, aged 24, hails from Yourabung Khunou. He was arrested from Pungdongbam Makha Leikai.
During the arrest of Meitei, security personnel recovered a mobile phone, which is expected to assist investigators in gathering further information about the group’s activities and contacts.
Weapons and Explosives Recovered
In a separate search operation conducted in the forested area of Salvom Ridge under Tengnoupal police station, forces uncovered a significant cache of weapons and related materials. The seized items included four 9 mm pistols along with four magazines.
Additionally, twelve improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were located at the site and were safely neutralized on the spot to prevent any risk to nearby areas. Alongside the weapons, officials also recovered various items of combat clothing, including jackets, pants, a combat shirt, a cap, and a handbag typically used in field operations.
Authorities believe that the recovered materials indicate preparations for potential militant activities in the region.
Security Measures Along Key Routes
The statement further highlighted that the movement of essential goods remains a priority. A convoy of 140 vehicles transporting necessary supplies along National Highway 37 was successfully facilitated under strict security arrangements.
To ensure uninterrupted and safe transit, security personnel have been deployed at sensitive points along the route. Convoys are being escorted through vulnerable stretches to minimize risks and maintain stability in the region.
Checkpoints and Ongoing Surveillance
As part of broader efforts to curb extortion and criminal activities, authorities have intensified surveillance across the state. A total of 114 checkpoints, commonly referred to as nakas, have been set up across both hill and valley districts.
During these checks, five individuals were detained for further questioning. Officials stated that such measures are part of ongoing operations aimed at dismantling networks involved in unlawful activities.
Advisory on Misinformation
In response to the spread of unverified content online, the Manipur Police have urged residents to exercise caution. A dedicated helpline number has been issued for the public to verify the authenticity of videos, audio clips, or messages circulating on social media.
Citizens have been advised not to rely on rumors or unconfirmed information. Officials warned that sharing misleading or fabricated content could lead to legal consequences.
Appeal to Return Illegal Arms
The police have also made a public appeal urging individuals in possession of looted or illegal weapons, ammunition, or explosives to surrender them at the nearest police station or security outpost without delay.
Authorities emphasized that cooperation from the public is essential in restoring peace and maintaining law and order across Manipur.
