Focus on Law and Order

A 2013-batch Indian Police Service officer, Singh said his immediate priority would be to strengthen public safety across the district. Addressing media persons in Shimla, he underlined the importance of maintaining law and order while ensuring that criminal cases are investigated thoroughly and within a defined time frame.

He emphasized that effective policing depends not only on swift action but also on detailed and fair investigations. According to Singh, the district police will concentrate on crime prevention while enhancing response mechanisms to maintain public confidence.

Comprehensive Crackdown on Drug Trafficking

Drug trafficking, which has emerged as a pressing concern in several parts of Himachal Pradesh, will receive sustained attention under his leadership. Singh stated that the district police would align closely with the state government’s anti-drug campaign spearheaded by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

He explained that the strategy would address both supply chains and consumer demand. “We intend to act firmly against those involved in trafficking while also examining the financial networks that support these operations,” he said. Financial investigations and tracing backward linkages in drug networks will form a crucial part of the crackdown.

The officer noted that community participation is essential in combating drug abuse, adding that enforcement agencies alone cannot eliminate the problem without cooperation from families, educational institutions, and civil society.

Measures to Ease Traffic Congestion

Traffic congestion in Shimla, particularly during peak tourist seasons, has long been a challenge. Singh acknowledged the strain placed on infrastructure due to increasing vehicle numbers and seasonal tourist inflow.

To address this, he announced plans to enhance deployment of traffic personnel at identified pressure points across the city. Additional riders will be stationed where needed, and alternative traffic routes will be explored to improve vehicle movement.

Singh said that specific traffic beats have already been mapped out, and maximum available staff will be assigned accordingly. He also pointed out that gaps in manpower would be addressed to ensure smoother operations.

Managing Capital City Responsibilities

As the capital of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla regularly hosts high-level official visits and VIP movements. Singh described this aspect of policing as particularly demanding, requiring careful coordination and adherence to established protocols.

He assured that routing duties and security arrangements linked to such visits would be managed systematically without disrupting daily life more than necessary. According to him, balancing routine policing with ceremonial and security responsibilities remains a key administrative task in the district.

Special Attention During Tourist Season

Tourism is a major contributor to Shimla’s economy, but it also intensifies traffic and public safety challenges. Singh said special traffic plans would be implemented during the tourist season to manage increased vehicular flow.

Alternative routes, improved signage, and coordinated deployment of traffic staff are among the measures under consideration. He added that real-time updates will be shared through official social media channels to help tourists and residents plan their travel more efficiently.

Protection of Women and Children

Reaffirming his broader policing priorities, Singh stressed that crimes against women and children would receive urgent attention. Any such cases, he said, would be investigated within a stipulated timeline, and strict action would follow wherever required.

He concluded by reiterating that his tenure would focus on maintaining law and order, dismantling drug networks, ensuring smoother traffic management, and strengthening public safety mechanisms throughout Shimla district.
