The Railway Board is probably the cause of the passenger train’s overshooting of the red signal.

The Railway Board, however, said hours after the incident that the passenger train seemed to have run a red light. Around 4 p.m., the mainline electric multiple unit (MEMU) train was traveling from Gevra in the nearby Korba district to Bilaspur when it collided.

Between the stations of Gatora and Bilaspur, the passenger train collided with the freight train from behind. According to a news release from the Railway Board, the preliminary evaluation by railway officials seems to have been prompted by the MEMU train’s passing signal at danger.

Here Are Some More Important Elements
1. The Railway Administration has moved quickly to launch warlike relief and rescue efforts. Senior authorities visited the location and kept a careful eye on the situation.

2. The Railway Board claims that ex gratia compensation of Rs 10 lakh has been announced for the deceased’s surviving family members, Rs 5 lakh for those who suffered severe injuries, and Rs 1 lakh for those who suffered lesser injuries.

3. To determine the precise reason and suggest the required remedial measures, a thorough investigation into the occurrence will be carried out at the level of the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS). The emergency numbers for Champa are 8085956528, Raigarh is 9752485600, and Bilaspur is 7777857335 and 7869953330.

4. Vishnu Deo Sai, the chief minister of Chhattisgarh, stated, “A train disaster happened close to Bilaspur. The rescue effort is in progress. The news is really depressing. The deceased’s family members will get Rs 5 lakhs. The wounded will get Rs 50,000 in addition to free medical care.

5. According to Bilaspur DC Sanjay Agrawal, “16–17 people are in serious condition.” This is a serious mishap. We are doing rescue efforts, and everyone is present.”

6. Former chief minister and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel stated, “The train tragedy in Bilaspur is really unfortunate. All the government is doing is moving coal. The people here are dying as a result. Human life now has a worth that is even lower than coal.

7. The accident survivors described their horrifying experiences. A passenger named Sanjeev Vishwakarma, 35, was browsing on his phone just before the crash occurred. Other passengers were talking and sleeping, not realizing that their trip would quickly become a nightmare.

8. What started off as a normal ride back from his in-laws’ residence in Akaltara turned into a flurry of screaming for Vishwakarma, a native of Bilha (Bilaspur). He operates a motor vehicle. “The first coach was where I was seated. About 16–17 people, including men, women, and children, were on board. After leaving Gatora, the train abruptly shook strongly and collided with something around 500 meters away. After a loud noise, there were shouts from individuals. Then it was dark,” he remembered.

9. “I was trapped under the seat when I opened my eyes. People were pleading for assistance. The goods train was where my coach had ascended. In front of me, I saw corpses. There were three fatalities, one of them a lady. As he lay on his hospital bed, he said, “Their faces still haunt me.”

10. Mohan Sharma, a Raipur-based marketing expert, had taken the train from Champa, which lies in the nearby Janjgir-Champa district. “I had intended to take the Link Express train to Raipur, but it was running late, so I decided to take the MEMU train instead to save time. Even though I got off this train, I was considering boarding the Link Express again, but I got on it again,” he remarked.
