Murder Investigation – A tense situation unfolded in the Pahala area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Wednesday after residents blocked a major road to protest the alleged murder of a local man. The demonstration continued for more than two hours as villagers demanded swift action against those believed to be involved in the incident.
Body Found Under Suspicious Circumstances
According to the Commissionerate Police, the deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Prabhat Behera, a resident of Anantapur village under the jurisdiction of Pahala Police Station. He was employed as a manager for a Hyva truck operation.
Local residents reportedly discovered Behera’s body near the village early on Wednesday morning. The body bore multiple severe injury marks, raising suspicion of foul play. The shocking discovery quickly drew family members and villagers to the scene, leading to widespread anger and demands for justice.
Family Levels Serious Allegations
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family, suspicion has been directed toward the owner of the Hyva vehicle and his brother. Relatives alleged that the two men were responsible for Behera’s death due to a long-standing dispute.
The allegations prompted residents to organize a road blockade, disrupting traffic in the area. Protesters demanded the immediate arrest of those accused and sought visible police action in the case.
Police Intervene to Restore Normalcy
Police officials reached the protest site and held discussions with demonstrators. Authorities stated that some residents insisted that the detained individuals be brought to the location, a demand police considered inappropriate under legal procedures.
After extensive negotiations and assurances that a thorough investigation would be conducted, the protesters agreed to withdraw the blockade. Traffic movement resumed after the road remained obstructed for more than two hours.

As part of the investigation, police detained the Hyva owner and his brother for questioning at Pahala Police Station. A scientific investigation team, accompanied by senior police officials, also visited the location where the body was found.

Brother Shares Family’s Concerns
Speaking to media representatives, Behera’s brother claimed that the family had no known enemies and was unaware of any serious conflict involving the deceased. He alleged that Prabhat had been called out of his house around midnight on Tuesday by the accused individuals as part of a planned move and was later killed.
The family further stated that Behera had previously left his job several months ago following a disagreement with the vehicle owner regarding unpaid wages. According to relatives, he later resumed work after being requested to return.

Family members believe earlier disputes between Behera and the accused may have contributed to the incident. They have urged authorities to conduct a fair and transparent investigation and ensure that those responsible face strict legal consequences.
