Lok Sabha Erupts: Speaker Birla promises action as the Lok Sabha erupts in chaos after Anurag Thakur accuses a TMC MP of using e-cigarettes
Lok Sabha Erupts: On Thursday, BJP MP Anurag Thakur accused an unidentified TMC MP of using an e-cigarette in the Lok Sabha over the previous several days, sparking a new controversy. He contacted Speaker Om Birla, who promised to take action on the issue and requested a formal complaint.

During Question Hour in the lower house, Thakur, who represents Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, inquired as to whether smoking has been permitted in the Lok Sabha. “E-cigarettes are prohibited nationwide. Have you given it permission to enter the house? Thakur inquired.
In response, Birla said, “No.” A TMC member has been “constantly smoking e-cigarettes in the House for the past several days,” the BJP MP continued.
The House briefly descended into turmoil as a result of Thakur’s statements. Then, a number of BJP members called for the opposition MP to be punished.
“I would like to again request the members that the rules of the House and traditions have to be followed,” Birla remarked as the commotion intensified. I’ll take action if such a problem arises.”
He promised to take action if a formal complaint was submitted. Following the passing of the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes (Production, Manufacture, Import, Export, Transport, Sale, Distribution, Storage and Advertisement) Bill, 2019 by both Houses in December, the nation outlawed the manufacture, import, distribution, and sale of e-cigarettes.
