HookahBan – Police in Telangana have intensified action against illegal hookah centres, carrying out multiple raids in Rangareddy district following credible intelligence inputs. The latest operation targeted a café operating within the Nagole Police Station limits, where authorities uncovered ongoing violations of the state-wide prohibition on hookah services.
Raid Uncovers Active Hookah Use at Local Café
According to officials, the LB Nagar Division police conducted a surprise inspection at Shehri Cafe after receiving specific information about unlawful activities. During the raid, officers found nearly 20 individuals actively smoking hookah on the premises. Several hookah pots and flavoured tobacco products were seized as evidence.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Krishnaiah stated that the operation was based on reliable inputs indicating that the café was functioning as a hookah centre despite the ban. He confirmed that such establishments are strictly prohibited under Telangana government regulations.
Authorities Highlight Health and Legal Concerns
Police officials reiterated that hookah consumption poses serious health risks, particularly among young people. ACP Krishnaiah emphasized that the government’s decision to shut down hookah centres was taken in the interest of public health and safety.
He also warned that involvement in such illegal activities could have long-term consequences. Authorities noted that individuals found participating in these activities may face legal cases, which could affect future employment opportunities. Background verification processes for both government and private sector jobs often include checks for criminal records, potentially limiting career prospects.
Youth Urged to Avoid Risky Activities

Earlier Raid Leads to Multiple Arrests
In a separate incident earlier this week, Telangana Police carried out another major operation in Rangareddy district. A total of 39 individuals were arrested during a late-night raid at a café named “The White Cup,” located in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar under the LB Nagar police limits.
Authorities revealed that although the establishment had permission to operate as a regular café, it was allegedly being used as a hookah lounge in violation of the law. Among those detained were 35 customers and four individuals accused of supplying hookah materials.
Seizures and Investigation Underway
During the operation, police seized multiple hookah pots along with 36 mobile phones from the premises. Officials stated that those arrested had gathered from various areas, including Kothapet, Saroornagar, Hayathnagar, Falaknuma, and Uppal, specifically to consume hookah.
Investigations are currently underway to determine the extent of the network involved in supplying hookah products and facilitating such illegal operations.
Continued Monitoring and Enforcement
Law enforcement agencies have indicated that surveillance and enforcement actions will continue across the state to ensure compliance with the ban. Police are actively monitoring cafés and similar establishments to prevent misuse of licenses.
