FBI – Reward Raised to $1 Million in 2015 Maryland Murder Case

FBI – The Federal Bureau of Investigation has sharply increased the reward for information that could lead to the arrest of Bhadresh Kumar Chetanbhai Patel, an Indian national accused of killing his wife in the United States more than a decade ago. Authorities announced that the potential reward has now reached up to one million US dollars, reflecting renewed efforts to locate the suspect who has remained missing since 2015.

Background of the Case

Patel, currently 35 years old, has been listed among the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives for several years. Investigators say he is wanted in connection with the death of his wife, Palak Patel, who was 21 at the time of the incident. The alleged crime occurred on the night of April 12, 2015, inside a doughnut shop in Hanover, Maryland, where both husband and wife were working.

According to investigators, the victim was attacked in a back room of the store shortly before midnight. Authorities believe she was struck repeatedly with an object, resulting in her death. After the incident, Patel is believed to have fled the scene, triggering a multi-agency investigation that has continued for years.

Timeline After the Killing

Law enforcement officials say the suspect exited the business through a rear door shortly after the incident. Surveillance footage and investigative findings suggest he later returned to the apartment he shared with his wife, where he reportedly collected personal belongings and cash before leaving the area.

Investigators believe Patel then traveled by taxi to a hotel located in New Jersey near Newark Liberty International Airport. Records indicate he checked into the hotel around 3 a.m. without carrying luggage. Later that same morning, at approximately 10 a.m., he checked out and boarded a hotel shuttle heading to Newark Penn Station.

Authorities say that moment represents the last confirmed sighting of him. Since then, there has been no verified public record of his movements.

Possible Motive and Movements

While the investigation has remained open for years, officials have shared some insights into what may have preceded the incident. According to earlier statements from the FBI, the couple’s visas had expired roughly a month before the killing. Investigators believe Palak Patel may have wanted to return to India, while her husband was reportedly opposed to that plan.

Authorities have suggested that the suspect could have sought help from acquaintances or distant relatives in the United States. At the same time, investigators have not ruled out the possibility that he may have left the country.

Officials have noted that Patel previously had connections to several US states, including New Jersey, Kentucky, Georgia, and Illinois. He also has ties to India, which has led investigators to consider the possibility that he may have attempted to travel internationally after leaving New Jersey.

Reward Increase and Ongoing Search

The FBI first announced a reward of 100,000 dollars for information that could help locate Patel. As the case remained unresolved, the agency later raised the amount to 250,000 dollars. The latest announcement significantly expands that figure to as much as one million dollars.

Officials say the increase reflects the seriousness of the case and the continued priority placed on locating the suspect. Investigators are urging anyone with credible information about Patel’s whereabouts to contact law enforcement agencies or submit tips through official FBI channels.

Authorities emphasize that even small details from the public could assist investigators in tracking down the fugitive. Despite the passage of time, the case remains active, and federal officials say they remain committed to bringing the suspect into custody.
