Election – DMK Set to Reveal Candidate List Ahead of Tamil Nadu Polls
Election – The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is expected to announce its list of candidates on Friday, marking a crucial milestone in its preparations for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for April 23. The announcement is likely to follow the finalisation of seat-sharing arrangements within the DMK-led alliance under the leadership of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.

Seat-Sharing Talks Near Completion
Political activity across the state has intensified as the nomination process approaches its start date on March 30, with vote counting set for May 4. Key political players, including the DMK, AIADMK, the NDA alliance, and actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, have accelerated their campaign efforts, focusing on alliance-building, constituency distribution, and voter engagement.
Within the DMK alliance, negotiations over seat allocation have largely been concluded. The party is expected to contest 164 constituencies, leaving the remaining seats to its allies.
Allocation Details Across Alliance Partners
According to current arrangements, the Congress is likely to field candidates in 28 constituencies. The DMDK is expected to contest 10 seats, while the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has been allotted eight. Both the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) are expected to contest five seats each.
The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) is likely to receive four seats. Other alliance partners include the Indian Union Muslim League, Humanist People’s Party, and Kongunadu People’s National Party, each expected to contest two seats. Smaller parties such as the Humanist Democratic Party, Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Mukkulathor Pulipadai, and Tamil Desiya Katchi are likely to contest one seat each.
Final Announcement Expected Soon
Sources indicate that final discussions are ongoing, and Chief Minister Stalin is expected to officially confirm both the constituency allocations and the DMK’s candidate list later in the day. The announcement is seen as a key step in shaping the alliance’s election strategy.
Manifesto and Campaign Launch Plans
In parallel with the candidate announcement, the DMK is preparing to release its election manifesto. The document, drafted by a committee headed by MP Kanimozhi, is expected to outline the party’s major policy commitments and governance priorities.
Following these developments, Chief Minister Stalin is scheduled to kick off the party’s statewide election campaign from Thiruvarur on April 2. The campaign is expected to include a series of public rallies and outreach programmes aimed at strengthening support for DMK candidates and its alliance partners as the election draws closer.
