Education – CBSE Announces May Schedule for Second Class 10 Exams
Education – The Central Board of Secondary Education has released the timetable for the second phase of Class 10 board examinations, scheduled to take place between May 15 and May 21.
The announcement provides clarity for thousands of students planning to either improve their scores or clear subjects after the first round of exams. According to the official schedule, the examination cycle will begin with Mathematics papers, including both Standard and Basic formats, on May 15. The following day, May 16, will see students appearing for English papers under Communicative and Language and Literature streams.
Science and Language Papers Spread Across Key Dates
The Science examination is slated for May 18, giving students a short gap after English to prepare. A wide range of language subjects and electives will be conducted on May 19. These include Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Bangla, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Gujarati. In addition, subjects like Home Science and certain vocational courses will also be held on the same day, making it one of the busiest dates in the schedule.
Final Subjects and Closing Examination Day
On May 20, students will sit for papers such as Sanskrit, Painting, Information Technology, and Artificial Intelligence. The examination cycle will conclude with Social Science on May 21, marking the final paper for this session.

The datesheet was formally issued by Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj, shortly after the results of the first phase of Class 10 board exams were declared. This quick transition aims to ensure students have enough time to prepare while maintaining the academic calendar.
New Policy Allows Two Attempts in a Year
Starting from 2026, CBSE has implemented a revised system that permits students to appear for Class 10 board exams twice within the same academic year. Under this approach, the February examination remains compulsory for all candidates, while the May session is optional.
This optional second attempt is designed to support students who wish to enhance their performance or need to pass subjects they could not clear earlier. It introduces greater flexibility into the evaluation system and reduces the pressure of a single high-stakes examination.
Opportunity to Improve Scores
As per board guidelines, students are allowed to appear in a maximum of three subjects during the second examination phase. Importantly, the board will consider the best score obtained across both attempts, ensuring that students benefit from improved performance without any disadvantage.
