DMK – Massive Party State Conference Set to Draw Lakhs in Tiruchirappalli

DMK – The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is preparing to hold its 12th State Conference on Monday at Siruganur, located along the Tiruchirappalli–Chennai National Highway. The large-scale gathering will take place across nearly 400 acres of land, while an additional 200 acres nearby have been set aside to manage vehicle parking for the expected crowd.

Party leaders anticipate a turnout of close to one million participants, making it one of the largest political gatherings in the state in recent years. Organisers have arranged seating for the attendees by dividing the venue into multiple sections, each designed to accommodate around 5,000 people. In total, nearly three lakh chairs have been installed to ensure proper seating arrangements throughout the venue.

Conference Arrangements and Opening Ceremony

The conference will begin in the afternoon, with preparations focusing on managing the large number of party cadres and supporters expected to arrive from different districts. According to DMK Principal Secretary and Tamil Nadu Municipal Administration Minister K.N. Nehru, the official programme will start at 3 pm.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin is scheduled to formally inaugurate the event later in the evening. He will hoist the party flag on a specially erected 110-foot flagpole at around 5:30 pm, marking the start of the main proceedings of the conference.

Senior leaders of the party have indicated that Stalin is expected to make several key announcements during the event. Reports suggest that up to six major declarations related to governance and future policy direction for the state could be unveiled during his address to party members.

Conference Seen as Political Launchpad

Within DMK circles, the state conference is being viewed as an important moment for the party as Tamil Nadu moves closer to the next Assembly elections. A similar conference held at the same location ahead of the 2021 Assembly polls had served as a platform where Stalin outlined key election promises and welfare schemes.

Many party workers believe this year’s gathering will once again act as a strategic starting point for the party’s campaign to retain power in the upcoming elections. Leaders are hoping the conference will strengthen party unity and energise cadres across the state.

NDA Also Preparing Major Rally in Tiruchirappalli

Meanwhile, preparations are also underway for a major public meeting organised by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tiruchirappalli later this week. The rally is expected to be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 11.

The event will be held at a 22-acre site near Edamalaipatti Pudur, located close to the Tiruchi–Madurai National Highway and approximately five kilometres from the Tiruchirappalli International Airport. Organisers are working to accommodate a large crowd at the venue.

BJP Tamil Nadu State President Nainar Nagendran stated that the NDA rally is expected to be conducted on a scale comparable to a large political conference. According to him, participation could exceed five lakh people, reflecting growing political mobilisation ahead of the state elections.

Tamil Nadu Gearing Up for Competitive 2026 Elections

The upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly election, scheduled for the first half of 2026, is expected to see intense competition among major political alliances. The 234-member Assembly will witness a contest where the ruling Secular Progressive Alliance, led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, aims to retain its majority.

The BJP-AIADMK-led NDA will attempt to challenge the incumbent alliance, while actor-turned-politician Vijay’s newly launched party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, is also expected to play a significant role. Political observers believe his entry could make the election a three-cornered contest in several constituencies.

In the previous Assembly election held in 2021, the DMK secured a decisive victory by winning 133 seats. Its ally Congress won 18 seats, while other alliance partners including PMK and VCK also contributed to the coalition’s overall strength. Together, the Secular Progressive Alliance achieved a total of 159 seats in the Assembly.

On the other side, the NDA secured 75 seats, with AIADMK emerging as the largest party within the alliance after winning 66 constituencies.

With major political events now taking place across the state, both ruling and opposition alliances are stepping up preparations as Tamil Nadu gradually moves toward another crucial electoral battle.
