Soon after the announcement, Sandhu expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for entrusting him with the responsibility. In a public message shared on social media, he said he would work with dedication and humility to serve the residents of Delhi.

Government Announces Key Appointment in National Capital

The appointment was part of a wider set of gubernatorial and lieutenant governor changes approved by President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday. The administrative changes were made shortly before the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, signaling a broader restructuring of key constitutional posts across several states and union territories.

Under the new arrangement, Sandhu takes charge as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. His predecessor, VK Saxena, has been reassigned and will now serve as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.

Sandhu is widely known for his diplomatic career, having served as India’s Ambassador to the United States. During his tenure in Washington, he played an important role in strengthening strategic, economic, and technological cooperation between India and the United States.

Sandhu Expresses Gratitude for Leadership Trust

In his statement, Sandhu acknowledged the support and confidence shown by the country’s top leadership. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving him the opportunity to serve the people of Delhi and described the prime minister’s leadership and vision as a guiding influence throughout his career.

He also expressed appreciation for Home Minister Amit Shah, noting that the trust and guidance from the central leadership would motivate him to perform his responsibilities with sincerity.

Sandhu emphasized that his priority would be public service and effective governance in the national capital. He stated that he would approach the role with loyalty, commitment, and a sense of responsibility toward the nation.

Other Governors and Constitutional Posts Reassigned

Alongside the change in Delhi, several other important gubernatorial appointments were announced as part of the reshuffle.

Senior political leader Nand Kishore Yadav has been appointed as the Governor of Nagaland. Meanwhile, Lieutenant General (Retired) Syed Ata Hasnain has been named the new Governor of Bihar. Hasnain, a former senior officer of the Indian Army, is known for his experience in national security and strategic affairs.

The reshuffle also included changes involving several other states. Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has been transferred and will now serve as the Governor of Telangana. In another move, Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has been reassigned as the Governor of Maharashtra.

Additionally, Kavinder Gupta, who previously served as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, has been appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh.

Political Leaders React to New Appointments

Political leaders have responded to the announcements with congratulatory messages for the newly appointed officials. Bihar Minister Deepak Prakash welcomed the appointments of Nand Kishore Yadav and Syed Ata Hasnain, expressing confidence that their leadership would contribute to development and governance.

Prakash noted that Hasnain’s experience could help support Bihar’s progress and administrative efforts. He also extended his best wishes to Yadav as he begins his new role as Governor of Nagaland.

Administrative observers say such reshuffles are a routine constitutional process aimed at ensuring smooth governance and administrative continuity across states and union territories.

With his diplomatic experience and long public service career, Sandhu now steps into one of the most visible constitutional positions in the country as he prepares to oversee governance matters in the national capital.
