DelhiAccident –  A worker lost his life while two others sustained injuries after a boundary wall collapsed during sewer pipeline construction work in Delhi’s Lodhi Colony in the early hours of Friday, according to officials.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight and triggered an immediate emergency response. Authorities said the collapse took place around 1:18 a.m. while sewage pipeline work was underway in the area. Following the alert, teams from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) were dispatched to the location to carry out rescue operations.

Three Workers Trapped Under Debris

Officials reported that three labourers became trapped beneath the rubble when the boundary wall suddenly gave way. The accident created a challenging situation at the site, with local residents rushing to help before emergency personnel arrived.

According to fire service officials, nearby residents managed to rescue two of the trapped workers from the debris before the arrival of the rescue teams. The third worker remained buried under the collapsed structure and was later pulled out by DFS personnel during the operation.

Rescue Efforts Launched Immediately

Emergency responders worked swiftly to ensure that all victims were recovered from the accident site. The coordinated efforts of local residents and rescue teams helped bring the trapped workers out from beneath the debris as quickly as possible.

Officials stated that the rescue operation was completed after the third worker was safely extracted from the rubble. Medical assistance was arranged immediately, and all three victims were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and evaluation.

Victims Taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre

The injured workers and the third rescued labourer were rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for emergency medical care. Doctors assessed their condition upon arrival and began treatment procedures.

Authorities identified the deceased worker as Devender, aged 55. Despite medical efforts, he was declared dead after reaching the hospital. The two injured workers were identified as Rajesh, 48, and Umar, 20.

Investigation Into Collapse Expected

Officials have not yet disclosed the exact reason behind the wall collapse. The incident occurred during ongoing sewage pipeline work, and authorities are expected to examine the circumstances that led to the accident.

Worksite safety remains a key concern in infrastructure and construction projects, particularly when excavation and underground utility work are involved. Further details regarding the cause of the collapse and any subsequent action are likely to emerge following an official assessment.
