The accused was taken into custody after the child’s mother informed authorities about the alleged crime, prompting an immediate investigation.
Police Recover Infant’s Body During Search Operation
According to police officials, the infant’s body was recovered from a drain in the Char Chaman locality following a search conducted by law enforcement teams. Authorities stated that the operation was launched soon after a complaint was filed at the Civil Lines police station.
The child, identified as Divyanshi, was reportedly found in a drain connected to the Karna Canal area. Police officials confirmed that the body would be sent for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Domestic Dispute Believed to Be Main Reason
Investigators suspect that tensions between the husband and wife may have led to the tragic incident. Police sources said the couple had been facing marital problems for some time, and the woman had been staying with her parents for nearly two months before the incident occurred.
The child’s mother, Anita, told reporters that she has two children, including a three-year-old son and the deceased infant daughter. She alleged that her husband, Sonu, arrived at her parental home late Sunday night under the influence of alcohol and started arguing with her.
During the confrontation, Anita claimed that her husband forcibly took the baby from her arms and walked outside. She stated that he returned alone after some time and allegedly confessed that he had thrown the infant into a nearby drain behind the vegetable market area.
Mother Approaches Police After Alleged Confession
Disturbed by the incident, Anita approached the police station early Monday morning and lodged a formal complaint. Acting on the information, police teams began a coordinated search operation in the surrounding drainage network.
Officials later located the child’s body and detained the accused for questioning. The arrest was made within a few hours of the complaint being registered, according to police authorities.
Police Officials Confirm Arrest and Investigation
Station House Officer Ramlal of the Civil Lines police station confirmed that authorities received information regarding a man allegedly throwing his infant daughter into a dirty drain.
Speaking to reporters, the SHO said police teams acted swiftly after receiving the complaint and were able to solve the matter within three to four hours. He confirmed that the accused father had been arrested and that legal proceedings were underway.
Police officials also stated that the accused would be produced before a court after interrogation. Further investigation is continuing to establish all circumstances related to the case.
