Crime – Two Arrested in Delhi Mobile Snatching Case
Crime – Two men accused of snatching a mobile phone near Dhaula Kuan Metro Station have been arrested by Delhi Police following a targeted operation in the Southwest district.

Swift Police Action in South-West Delhi
The Delhi Police on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of two young men allegedly involved in a recent mobile phone snatching incident near Dhaula Kuan. Officers from PP Subroto Park under Police Station Delhi Cantt carried out the operation and detained the suspects from East Mehram Nagar.
The accused have been identified as Rinku Khan, also known as Kotal, 24, and Ajay, alias Banty, 24. Both are residents of East Mehram Nagar in Delhi. Police said one snatched mobile phone and another handset reported stolen were recovered during the operation. The scooty allegedly used in the crime was also seized.
Incident Reported Through PCR Call
According to officials, a PCR call was received at Police Station Delhi Cantt on February 9 at approximately 10:45 p.m. The caller reported that a mobile phone had been snatched near Dhaula Kuan Metro Station.
A police team reached the spot and met the complainant, identified as Tarooshra Singh, 20, a resident of Lucknow. Singh informed officers that he is an engineering student and had taken a short break from his studies. He was on his way to catch a bus to Lucknow and was waiting outside the metro station around 10:40 p.m. when two individuals approached him on a scooty. Within moments, they allegedly grabbed his phone and sped away.
Case Registered Under BNS Provisions
Following the complaint, police registered FIR No. 157/26 under Sections 304(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Police Station Delhi Cantt. An investigation was launched immediately.
During the inquiry, the team from PP Subroto Park tracked down one of the suspects, Rinku Khan. He was apprehended, and the mobile phone reported as snatched was recovered from his possession. The scooty believed to have been used during the incident was also seized. Police said the vehicle is registered in the name of Rinku Khan’s father.
CCTV Footage Leads to Second Arrest
Investigators reviewed CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around the Dhaula Kuan area. Based on the visual evidence and further leads, the second accused, Ajay alias Banty, was identified and later arrested.
Police officials stated that sustained questioning of both accused led to the detection of another mobile theft case. An additional stolen handset was recovered during further investigation.
Previous Criminal Records
Authorities disclosed that both individuals have prior criminal records. Rinku Khan is allegedly linked to eight earlier cases involving theft, robbery, and violations under the Arms Act across various police stations in Delhi. Ajay alias Banty is reportedly connected to six previous cases related to theft and robbery.
The recoveries made in the current operation include one snatched mobile phone, one stolen handset, and the scooty allegedly used in committing the offence.
Two Cases Solved So Far
Police confirmed that two cases have been worked out as part of this investigation. These include FIR No. 157/26 under Sections 304(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and E-FIR No. 80110078/24 under Section 303(2) of the same law, both registered at Police Station Delhi Cantt.
Officials added that further investigation is ongoing to determine whether the accused were involved in additional offences in the area.
