Crime – A 55-year-old man was found dead after a brutal attack inside a public garden in South Mumbai, raising fresh concerns about safety in busy city spaces. The victim, identified as Rahul Panjwani, also known locally as Punjabi, was reportedly killed after being struck with a stone by an unidentified person.
Incident Reported From Churchgate Area
The incident took place at Tata Garden, located along Veer Nariman Road in the Churchgate locality. According to initial information shared by the police, the victim was discovered lying in a pool of blood within the garden premises during the early evening hours. The location, which usually sees regular public movement, became the site of a disturbing crime that has left investigators searching for answers.
Police Response and Immediate Action
Police Sub-Inspector Janardan Ramchandra Jadhav, currently attached to Azad Maidan Police Station, was on duty when the alert came through. Around 5 pm, the Mumbai Police control room informed him about an injured individual found inside the garden near a bus depot.
Responding without delay, PSI Jadhav and his team reached the scene and found a man, believed to be in his early fifties, lying unconscious with severe head injuries. He was quickly transported to a nearby government hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival, confirming the seriousness of the assault.
Victim Identification and Preliminary Findings
During the early stages of the investigation, authorities confirmed the identity of the deceased as Rahul Panjwani. Police stated that the attack appeared to have been carried out using a heavy stone, indicating a violent and direct assault. After committing the crime, the suspect reportedly fled the scene before police arrived.
The body has since been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and gather further forensic details that could assist in the investigation.
