Crime – Delhi Police Arrest Repeat Offender Linked to Multiple Theft Cases
Crime – Delhi Police have apprehended a repeat offender accused of involvement in a series of thefts, robberies, and snatching incidents across the national capital. The arrest was made by a team from Shakarpur Police Station, who also recovered five stolen mobile phones from the suspect during the operation.

Arrest Follows Ongoing Investigation
According to officials from the East District Police, the accused has a long criminal record, with at least 24 previous cases registered against him. These include offences such as theft, robbery, snatching, and violations under the Arms Act, reported at multiple police stations in Delhi.
The recent case began on February 17 after an e-FIR was filed regarding the theft of a Realme C53 mobile phone near Mother Dairy Road in Shakarpur. Police initiated an investigation immediately, focusing on identifying patterns and suspects linked to similar incidents in the area.
Surveillance and Intelligence Lead to Breakthrough
A dedicated team comprising Sub Inspector Anubhav, ASI Praveen, Head Constable Rahul, and HC Gautam was assigned to the case under the supervision of senior officers. The team conducted extensive groundwork, including examining CCTV footage from nearby locations and gathering local intelligence inputs.
Officers also increased patrolling in vulnerable areas and closely monitored suspicious activities. Their coordinated efforts eventually helped them identify a suspect who matched the profile developed during the investigation.
Suspect Apprehended Near Akshardham Flyover
On April 3, during routine patrolling near the Akshardham Flyover, police personnel noticed a man behaving suspiciously. Acting promptly, they stopped and questioned him. Upon further inquiry, he was identified as Intezar, also known as Imtiyaz, a 30-year-old resident of Trilokpuri in East Delhi.
A search of his belongings led to the recovery of five mobile phones. When asked to provide proof of ownership, the accused failed to produce valid documents or a credible explanation.
Stolen Devices Linked to Multiple Cases
Police verification through ZIPNET confirmed that one of the recovered devices, a Realme C53, was connected to the original theft case registered in Shakarpur. Another device, a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, was linked to a separate e-FIR filed at Madhu Vihar Police Station.
Additionally, a Motorola Edge 50 recovered from the accused had been reported missing in Kalyanpuri. The remaining devices, including an Apple iPhone 13 and an Oppo A16, are also being examined for links to other cases.
Pattern of Crimes and Modus Operandi
Investigators revealed that the accused primarily targeted individuals in crowded public areas. He would take advantage of moments when victims were distracted, quickly steal their mobile phones, and leave the scene unnoticed.
To avoid detection, he frequently changed locations and operated in different parts of the city. Police also stated that he sold stolen phones to generate quick money, making it difficult to trace the devices.
Further Investigation Underway
Following his arrest, the accused was produced before a court and has been remanded to judicial custody. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify possible accomplices and recover additional stolen property.
Officials believe that the arrest could help solve several pending cases of mobile theft and snatching across East Delhi. They have also urged residents to remain alert in crowded areas and report suspicious activities promptly.
