Controversy – Acting on a complaint related to alleged offensive remarks about Saint Francis Xavier, the Goa Police have expanded their investigation beyond state borders, reaching Uttarakhand in search of the accused, Gautam Khattar. Authorities confirmed that efforts to locate him led to a development in the Raiwala area earlier this week.
Police Operation Extends to Uttarakhand
According to officials, a team from Goa Police arrived in Uttarakhand on April 22 after receiving internal inputs regarding Khattar’s possible whereabouts. With coordination from local law enforcement, a search operation was initiated in Raiwala. During this exercise, Khattar’s brother, Madhav Khattar, was taken into custody at the location.
Rishikesh Deputy Superintendent of Police Neeraj Semwal explained that a local team, led by a sub-inspector, was assembled to assist the visiting officers. He stated that Madhav Khattar was detained on-site based on claims by Goa Police linking him to the case under investigation.
Local Authorities Await Formal Communication
While the operation involved cooperation at the ground level, senior officials in neighboring districts indicated that they were yet to receive formal communication regarding the arrest. Haridwar Superintendent of Police Abhay Singh said that his department had not been officially informed about Madhav Khattar’s detention.
He added that although information about the development was emerging through various channels, no direct request for assistance had been received so far. Singh emphasized that if approached, the Haridwar Police would extend full cooperation to their counterparts from Goa or any other state authority.
Case Origin and Legal Action
The case stems from an FIR registered in Vasco da Gama, Goa, where Gautam Khattar has been accused of making controversial statements concerning Saint Francis Xavier, a revered figure among the Christian community. The remarks reportedly triggered strong reactions, prompting legal action and an investigation by local authorities.
Following the registration of the case, a lookout notice was issued against Khattar, indicating that he may attempt to evade law enforcement. Police teams have since been working to trace his movements and secure his arrest.

Despite the detention of Madhav Khattar, the primary focus of the investigation remains on locating Gautam Khattar. Officials confirmed that search efforts are ongoing, and multiple leads are being pursued to track him down.
