Cardiology – AI-Guided Heart Procedure Introduces Advanced Vascular Care in Palnadu

Cardiology –  A significant step forward in cardiac healthcare has been achieved at Sri Datta Hospital in Narasaraopet, where doctors successfully carried out an advanced heart procedure using Artificial Intelligence-assisted imaging technology. The treatment involved the placement of a bio-resorbable scaffold in a patient suffering from a coronary artery condition, marking a notable development in regional healthcare services.

AI-Powered Imaging Supports Complex Treatment

The procedure was performed under the supervision of Dr. Krishnakanth, who utilized an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) system to obtain highly detailed images of the patient’s blood vessel. OCT technology enables specialists to examine the internal structure of arteries with exceptional clarity, helping them make more accurate treatment decisions during cardiovascular interventions.

Using the imaging data generated by the AI-supported OCT platform, the medical team precisely implanted a bio-resorbable scaffold. This advanced device functions similarly to a conventional stent by helping keep the artery open and maintaining healthy blood flow.

Bio-Resorbable Scaffold Offers Long-Term Benefits

Unlike traditional metallic stents that remain permanently inside the artery, the implanted bio-resorbable scaffold gradually dissolves within approximately two to three years. Medical experts explain that after the scaffold is absorbed by the body, the treated blood vessel is largely free from permanent implant material, allowing the artery to regain more natural function over time.

The technology is considered a promising advancement in interventional cardiology because it combines structural support during recovery with the long-term advantage of leaving minimal residual material within the vessel.

First-of-Its-Kind Technology in Andhra Pradesh

Speaking about the development, Dr. Krishnakanth said the installation of a world-class AI-enabled vascular OCT imaging system at Sri Datta Hospital represents a major achievement for the Palnadu region. According to him, such sophisticated cardiovascular imaging facilities have generally been available only at leading hospitals in metropolitan centers such as Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

The introduction of this technology in Narasaraopet is expected to improve access to advanced cardiac care for patients living in smaller cities and surrounding rural areas, reducing the need to travel long distances for specialized treatment.

Landmark Procedure for Guntur District

Hospital officials also highlighted that this was the first time an OCT-guided bio-absorbable vascular scaffold implantation had been performed in Guntur district. The successful completion of the procedure demonstrates the growing availability of modern cardiac treatment options outside major urban healthcare hubs.

Medical professionals believe that the adoption of AI-assisted imaging systems can enhance procedural accuracy, support better clinical outcomes, and strengthen the quality of heart care services available across the region.
