TerrorAttack – Ambulance Stolen and Crashed Into DHS Office in Idaho
TerrorAttack – A stolen ambulance was deliberately driven into a federal office building in Meridian, Idaho, early Thursday morning in what authorities are investigating as a suspected act of domestic terrorism and attempted arson. Officials say the vehicle, taken from a nearby hospital the night before, was loaded with gasoline containers and used to target a building that houses a Department of Homeland Security office.

Stolen Ambulance Used to Target Office Building
According to the Meridian Police Department, the incident began late Wednesday night when a man allegedly stole an ambulance from St. Luke’s West hospital around 11 p.m. Investigators believe the suspect had prepared in advance. Meridian Police Chief Tracy Basterrechea said the individual later drove the stolen emergency vehicle into the parking area near the Portico North office building.
The building is home to several offices, including a local branch of the Department of Homeland Security. Authorities said the suspect maneuvered the ambulance through the lot before retrieving gasoline cans that had been hidden in nearby bushes.
Crash and Attempted Arson
Police said the suspect positioned the ambulance in a narrow area between the Portico building and St. Luke’s property before accelerating toward the structure. The vehicle struck the Portico North building at an estimated speed of 25 miles per hour.
After the collision, the man reportedly poured gasoline or another flammable liquid inside and around the ambulance. However, investigators say he was unable to ignite the fuel. He fled the scene before emergency responders arrived.
Chief Basterrechea noted that the damage was limited to the vehicle and the exterior of the building. No injuries have been reported, and officials confirmed that employees inside the building were safe.
Multi-Agency Investigation Underway
Authorities are treating the case with heightened concern. The Meridian Police Department is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, the Boise Police Department, the Meridian Fire Department, and Idaho State Police.
Law enforcement officials described the situation as serious and emphasized that federal authorities are reviewing whether the incident qualifies as a domestic terror attack. The involvement of the Department of Homeland Security has further elevated the level of response.
Investigators are examining surveillance footage and other evidence collected from the scene. Officials have not yet released the suspect’s identity, and no arrests had been announced as of Thursday afternoon.
Description of the Suspect
Police provided a brief description of the individual believed to be responsible. According to investigators, the suspect was wearing a black shirt, tan pants, and a medical-style face mask at the time of the incident.
Authorities have asked anyone with information related to the theft of the ambulance or activity near the Portico North building late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning to contact local law enforcement.
Community Impact and Ongoing Response
The attempted attack has raised concerns in the Meridian community, particularly given its proximity to medical facilities and federal offices. Security measures around the affected area were increased throughout the day as investigators continued their work.
Officials said that while the physical damage appears limited, the nature of the act has prompted a coordinated response at both the state and federal levels. Law enforcement agencies remain focused on locating the suspect and determining the motive behind the incident.
The investigation remains active, and authorities have indicated that further updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
