Politics –   Vietnam’s political landscape entered a new phase on Tuesday as senior leader To Lam was formally elected president by the National Assembly, marking a significant consolidation of authority within the country’s top leadership structure.

National Assembly Gives Unanimous Approval

The appointment was confirmed with full backing from attending lawmakers, according to National Assembly chairman Tran Thanh Man, who stated that every present delegate supported the resolution for Lam’s presidency for the 2026–2031 term. The decision follows Lam’s recent reappointment as general secretary of the Communist Party earlier this year, placing him in control of both the party and the state.

In his inaugural remarks after taking the oath of office, Lam described the dual responsibility as both an honor and a solemn duty. He emphasized the weight of expectations tied to the roles, noting that the positions carry deep significance for the country’s future direction.
