Summit Brings Global AI Leaders to New Delhi

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 is being held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The five-day event began on February 16 and will continue until February 20, drawing participants from across continents to deliberate on the evolving role of artificial intelligence in society.

Organisers have described the gathering as a major international platform for dialogue on AI policy, innovation, and regulation. Policymakers, technology executives, academic researchers, startup founders, and representatives from civil society are attending to exchange perspectives on how AI can be shaped responsibly.

Focus on Governance, Safety and Societal Impact

The summit is part of a broader international effort to strengthen collaboration on AI governance and safety standards. Discussions are expected to address ethical frameworks, regulatory cooperation, and the long-term societal implications of rapid technological change.

According to official estimates, representatives from more than 110 countries and 30 international organisations are participating. The event also includes high-level representation, with around 20 heads of state or government and about 45 ministers joining the deliberations. Such wide participation highlights the global urgency surrounding AI development and oversight.

This edition of the summit is notable for being the first global AI conference of its scale to be hosted in the Global South. The platform aims to amplify diverse voices in global technology debates and encourage inclusive digital growth.

Three Pillars Guiding the AI Agenda

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 is structured around three guiding principles described as People, Planet, and Progress. These pillars are intended to anchor discussions on ensuring that artificial intelligence remains human-centric, environmentally responsible, and economically inclusive.

Under the “People” pillar, conversations are centred on protecting rights, reducing digital divides, and ensuring equitable access to AI-driven opportunities. The “Planet” focus addresses the environmental footprint of advanced computing systems and explores pathways toward sustainable technological infrastructure. “Progress” highlights the role of innovation in driving economic growth while maintaining ethical standards.

Together, these themes reflect a broader push for AI systems that serve public welfare and long-term development goals rather than narrow commercial interests.

India-Finland Ties Expand Beyond Technology

Beyond the summit, the visit also signals the steady expansion of bilateral ties between India and Finland. The two countries have traditionally maintained cordial relations, but recent years have seen greater collaboration in research partnerships, innovation ecosystems, and investment flows.

Finnish expertise in education technology, clean energy solutions, and digital infrastructure has aligned with India’s expanding technology landscape. At the same time, Indian professionals and entrepreneurs have contributed significantly to Finland’s growing technology sector.

The Indian community in Finland has grown steadily and remains well integrated into local society. Cultural exchanges, including the popularity of yoga and Indian cultural traditions in Finland, have further strengthened people-to-people connections.

As global conversations around artificial intelligence continue to intensify, the presence of Finland’s Prime Minister at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 underscores a shared commitment to shaping the future of technology through dialogue, cooperation, and responsible governance.
