Ryan Coogler : claims that during shooting “Sinners,” starring Michael B. Jordan, he almost went insane
Ryan Coogler: While lamenting “Sinners,” which features Michael B. Jordan as the Smokestack Twins, Hollywood filmmaker Ryan Coogler is talking candidly about the testing period.

According to “Female First UK,” the filmmaker claimed to have “almost lost (his) mind” while filming Michael B. Jordan.
shooting a driving sequence for his 2025 vampire movie required careful planning and scheduling, and the 39-year-old filmmaker has recounted the challenges he had when shooting Jordan, 38, and his twin Percy Bell as Smoke and Stack.
“Every day was different,” Coogler said while speaking on Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist podcast. Each scenario was unique. There are several parts in the film that you wouldn’t consider challenging. Do you recall the day you guys had to drive the vehicle into the bushes and I almost went insane? We had to do a repeated run of the vehicle going up and landing, them stepping out of the car with the right time, and then interacting with the bush with the right timing, so pulling off that shot was f****** wild. Mike was driving.
The director of “Black Panther,” according to “Female First UK,” stated that Smoke and Stack had unique gaits, and every step has to be meticulously replicated on every shot.
“You can see the difference in performance, but they also have to enter the bushes in a certain way due to the timing,” he remarked.
Jordan pointed out that he needed to be certain of how his duplicate would deliver his lines. “In order to have that performance to react off of when I was playing the first brother, I would have to work with my twin double, Percy Bell, and direct him on what I was going to do,” he revealed.
The Creed actor said that because “we couldn’t exist in the same space,” whichever brother started the sequence would establish “the rules of blocking and coverage” for the scenario.
“That was what we discovered in real time,” he said. Despite the difficulty of shooting the segment, Coogler maintained that the final edit of the film “looks good” with the moment.
In “Sinners,” twin gangster brothers Smoke and Stack (Jordan) want to put their criminal histories behind them by opening a Black-owned juke bar in their Mississippi hometown in 1932. However, the twins, their musical cousin Sammie (Miles Caton), and their close-knit community must choose what they are prepared to give up in order to live and remain free when a captivating vampire (Jack O’Connell) unleashes a supernatural nightmare on the town.
Hailee Steinfeld, Wunmi Mosaku, Delroy Lindo, Jayme Lawson, and Omar Benson Miller are also featured in Sinners. Jordan reportedly said that he thought his portrayal of Smoke was worthy of an Oscar consideration.
