Politics – Opposition Leaders Likely to Gather at Lalu Family Celebration
Politics – Senior leaders from several parties in the INDIA opposition alliance are expected to attend a private gathering in Ghaziabad on May 27 during celebrations linked to the family of Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. The occasion marks the first birthday celebration of his grandson, Iraj Lalu Yadav.
Family Members Reach Delhi Ahead of Event
Lalu Prasad Yadav, accompanied by former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi and Bihar Assembly Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, has already arrived in New Delhi before the scheduled function. Preparations for the gathering are reportedly being supervised by Tejashwi Yadav.
The celebration is expected to take place at the residence of Tejashwi’s sister, Ragini, in Ghaziabad. While the organisers are officially presenting the occasion as a personal family event, political circles are closely watching the guest list because of the expected participation of several prominent opposition figures.
Invitations Sent to Major Opposition Figures
According to sources familiar with the arrangements, invitations have reportedly been extended to senior leaders from different parties within the INDIA bloc. Among those expected to attend are Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee, and Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal.
Sources also indicated that several RJD MPs, MLAs, MLCs and important office-bearers of the party have received invitations for the gathering. The expected presence of multiple opposition leaders at one venue has attracted attention in political circles, especially at a time when discussions over coordination among alliance partners continue ahead of upcoming political developments.
RJD Calls It a Personal Celebration
Despite speculation surrounding the event, RJD representatives have maintained that the function should not be viewed through a political lens. Party spokesperson Mritunjay Tiwari stated that the gathering is strictly a family occasion without any political agenda attached to it.
He stressed that the celebration is centered entirely around the birthday of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s grandson and should not be interpreted as an official opposition meeting or alliance strategy session.
Political Observers See Symbolic Importance
Even though party leaders are downplaying the political significance, analysts believe the gathering may still carry symbolic value. The possibility of multiple INDIA bloc leaders sharing a common platform, even informally, is being viewed as a display of continued communication among opposition parties.
Observers say Lalu Prasad Yadav has historically played an important role in bringing together regional and national opposition forces. The presence of senior leaders from various parties at a family celebration could therefore send a message of political coordination and unity, even if no formal discussions are scheduled during the event.
