Earlier the same day, Trump referred to the planned meeting while addressing an event related to his administration’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge. He said Xi was expected to arrive on September 24 and indicated that the subject had been discussed during his previous trip to Beijing.
Trump also used the event to highlight competition between the United States and China in artificial intelligence. He argued that the US continues to hold an advantage in AI development and said preserving that position would require substantial investments in electricity generation, data centres, and supporting infrastructure needed for advanced computing technologies.

The diplomatic announcement came during a celebration for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who captured consecutive World Series titles. Trump congratulated the organisation on achieving back-to-back championships, describing the accomplishment as an important milestone in the franchise’s history.
