Crime – Delhi Police Arrest Five in Nabi Karim Extortion Firing Case

Crime –  Delhi Police have arrested five people, including a local builder, in connection with an alleged extortion attempt and firing incident in the Nabi Karim area. Police said the suspected planner, Pawan Kumar, also known as Pawan Pehelwan, was taken into custody following an encounter near IP Estate.

The case relates to a complaint filed by a builder based in Paharganj, who alleged that he was threatened for money and later targeted with gunfire after refusing to meet the demand.

Police Detail Alleged Rs 30 Lakh Demand

According to investigators, the incident occurred on June 29 when an armed man allegedly entered the builder’s office in Paharganj. The visitor allegedly demanded Rs 30 lakh and asked for Rs 5 lakh to be paid immediately.

Police said the builder declined to pay. The man then allegedly fired at him before leaving the office. No further details about the condition of the complainant were immediately provided by officials.

Apart from Pehelwan, the police have identified the other arrested suspects as Shakti Singh, Vishal Bhati, Pawan Kumar alias Pawan Chetli, and Rajesh Sachdeva.

Police Allege Plan to Create Fear Among Business Owners

Officials said Pehelwan, a resident of Bahadurgarh, had allegedly presented himself as a financier. However, police believe he was attempting to establish an extortion operation by intimidating builders and business owners in central Delhi.

Investigators said the group had allegedly studied the complainant’s office and planned the incident in advance. Several meetings were reportedly held before the firing, and the suspects are accused of carrying out reconnaissance of the office location.

Police are examining the alleged roles of each accused and whether the group may have been linked to similar complaints in the area.

Builder and Hotelier Accused of Providing Support

Police said Chetli, who is described as a local builder and hotelier, and Sachdeva allegedly assisted the group by arranging places to stay and locations for meetings. They are also accused of sharing information about the complainant and his family.

According to police, Chetli may have used the alleged crime to settle business-related disputes and expand his influence among builders operating in the locality. These allegations remain part of the ongoing investigation.

Encounter Near IP Estate Leads to Arrest

Shakti Singh was arrested after police tracked him to Kolkata, where he had allegedly gone after the incident. Officials said he was later located near Kabristan in the IP Estate area following a tip-off.

Police alleged that Singh fired at the team during the operation. He sustained injuries to both legs in retaliatory firing and was subsequently arrested. Authorities said legal procedures were followed and the matter is being investigated further.

Mangolpuri Clash Leaves One Dead and Another Injured

In a separate incident, a 45-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death during a clash between two families in Mangolpuri, outer Delhi. Police said the dispute was linked to an earlier rivalry between the families.

The deceased has been identified as Mahesh. Another man, Mukesh, 35, was injured in the violence and received medical attention.

Three people, including a minor, have been apprehended in the case. Police said further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and determine the role of those involved.
