Mumbai Rainfall – Heavy Downpour Disrupts Western Railway Services
Mumbai Rainfall – The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai and nearby districts on Wednesday, with strong winds also expected along parts of the Konkan coast. The weather conditions have already affected rail operations after waterlogging was reported on a section of the Western Railway network.

Heavy Rain Alert for Mumbai and Konkan Districts
The weather department said Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad could receive intense rainfall during the day. Some locations in Palghar may experience extremely heavy rain, while winds of 60 to 70 kmph are forecast in parts of the Konkan region.
Rainfall is also likely in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, where isolated areas may receive heavy showers. The IMD expects the intensity of the rain to begin easing from July 9. From July 12, most districts are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall after the current spell weakens.
Flooding and Travel Disruptions Remain a Concern
Authorities have cautioned that sustained rain may cause water accumulation in low-lying neighbourhoods and trigger local flooding. The IMD also flagged the possibility of flash floods, landslides in vulnerable locations, rough sea conditions and damage to weak structures and standing crops.
Road, rail, air and ferry services could face interruptions if rainfall remains intense. Residents have been advised to avoid flooded stretches, monitor traffic updates before travelling and remain careful during thunderstorms.
Waterlogging Affects Western Railway Operations
Heavy rainfall caused waterlogging in the Navsari-Maroli section, affecting services in the Mumbai Central Division of Western Railway. Railway officials have announced cancellations, diversions and changes to several trains scheduled to operate on Wednesday.
The Bhuj-Dadar Sayajinagari Express, which began its journey on July 7, was short-terminated at Gandhidham. Its service between Gandhidham and Dadar was cancelled.
Among the cancelled services are the Dadar-Bhuj Sayajinagari Express, Ahmedabad-Bandra Terminus Karnavati Express and its return journey, Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central AC Double Decker Express and its return service, Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central Tejas Express and its return journey, and the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central Vande Bharat Express along with its return service.
Route Changed for Long-Distance Train
The Sri Ganganagar-Thiruvananthapuram North Express, which departed on July 7, has been diverted through Surat, Jalgaon, Manmad, Igatpuri, Kalyan and Panvel. Western Railway has asked passengers to verify the latest status of their trains through the National Train Enquiry System or Rail Madad by calling 139 before leaving for stations.
Farmers Asked to Assess Rainfall Before Sowing
The Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office has also advised farmers to plan agricultural work according to local weather conditions. The state expects rainfall to decline in several areas from July 8.
Despite strong showers in Mumbai and parts of western Maharashtra at the start of July, rainfall across several regions has remained below normal so far. The Agriculture Department has urged farmers in areas with inadequate rain not to begin sowing until the soil has received enough moisture.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, rainfall has been comparatively low in Khandesh, including Dhule and Nandurbar, as well as Ahilyanagar, Solapur, parts of western Vidarbha and some areas of Marathwada. Farmers have been advised to follow local forecasts and take decisions based on field conditions.
