Rain and wind forecast for Delhi

The IMD expects generally cloudy conditions in Delhi on Wednesday and Thursday. Light rain is likely at several locations, while isolated areas may receive moderate showers. Thunderstorms and lightning may also occur, along with winds of 30 to 40 kmph. Wind speeds could rise to around 50 kmph during stronger gusts.

The department said the wet spell is expected to remain active in the coming days, although rainfall intensity may differ from one area to another. Residents may see short rain spells at some locations and longer showers in others, depending on local weather conditions.

Gurugram struggles with waterlogging

In neighbouring Gurugram, heavy monsoon rain continued to affect normal movement after water accumulated on several roads. Flooded stretches and waterlogged underpasses caused traffic congestion in parts of the city, slowing vehicles during the morning hours.

The situation highlighted the recurring pressure on road networks during intense rain in the National Capital Region. Commuters were advised to allow additional travel time and avoid routes known to face waterlogging during heavy showers.

July 9 likely to bring more showers

For July 9, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rain at isolated places in Delhi, mainly during the morning and forenoon. These conditions may be accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.

Another round of very light to light rainfall may occur during the night. The forecast indicates that weather activity will remain uneven, with some localities receiving more rain than others.

Alert level may ease later this week

The weather department is likely to shift Delhi to a green alert on July 10 and July 11. A green alert indicates that no major weather warning is in place, though it does not mean completely dry conditions.

Cloud cover is expected to continue on both days. Very light to light rain may occur in some parts of the city, especially during the forenoon or afternoon. Thunderstorms and lightning remain possible during these periods.

Residents advised to remain careful

The IMD has asked people in Delhi and nearby NCR districts to remain cautious during thunderstorms and strong winds over the next few days. Sudden weather changes can affect road travel, outdoor work and local transport services.

People have been advised to avoid sheltering under trees or near electric poles during lightning activity. Motorists should also remain alert on waterlogged roads, where visibility and traffic movement may be affected by rain.
