Steel Plant – Jagan Credits Previous Government for Kadapa Project Progress

Steel Plant –  YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said the JSW Steel project in Kadapa has reached its latest stage after years of groundwork completed during his government’s tenure. He described industrial development as a long-term process that should continue regardless of political changes.

Former Chief Minister Highlights Earlier Project Preparations

In a social media statement issued on Friday, Jagan Mohan Reddy congratulated Sajjan Jindal, chairman of JSW Group, along with the project team, on the renewed progress of the steel plant. He said the development could become an important step for industrial growth in the Rayalaseema region.

The former chief minister said his administration had selected JSW as the developer for the proposed plant and completed several initial requirements needed before construction could advance. According to him, such projects depend on planning, approvals and supporting facilities that are often developed over several years.

Clearances, Land and Water Support Cited

Jagan Mohan Reddy said the previous YSRCP government had worked to obtain environmental permissions and ensure water availability for the proposed steel plant. He also referred to land allocation and the creation of road links and infrastructure corridors intended to support the industrial project.

He maintained that these measures were necessary to make the Kadapa project viable and help the company move towards implementation. The former chief minister said large investments require coordination between government departments, developers and local infrastructure agencies before work can begin on the ground.

The steel plant has been viewed as a potential driver of industrial activity in Kadapa district and the wider Rayalaseema area. Supporters of the project have said it could create employment opportunities, strengthen supply chains and encourage related businesses in the region once operations begin.

Allegation of Delays Under Current Administration

The YSRCP leader also raised concerns about the pace of the project after the change in government. He alleged that work on the proposed plant had slowed considerably over the past two years, affecting the timeline for a major industrial investment in the region.

According to Jagan Mohan Reddy, the project had effectively come to a standstill during this period. He said the renewed movement was encouraging, particularly because the region had been waiting for the investment and its possible economic benefits.

His remarks came after the steel plant project was formally grounded again, bringing fresh attention to the long-pending industrial proposal. The restart has revived discussion around the role of earlier administrative decisions, project approvals and infrastructure planning in taking the initiative forward.

Rayalaseema Industry Focus Returns to Centre Stage

The former chief minister said credit for large development projects should be understood in the context of the work carried out over multiple years. He argued that political transitions should not interrupt projects that are expected to benefit local communities and support regional economic growth.

While welcoming the restart, he said the Kadapa steel plant reflects the importance of continuity in public policy and industrial planning. He added that the groundwork completed under the previous government helped create the conditions required for the project to move ahead.

The progress of the plant will now be closely watched by local residents, job seekers and businesses linked to the industrial sector. Future construction activity, investment commitments and employment plans are expected to shape the project’s wider impact on Kadapa and Rayalaseema.
