Infrastructure – PM Modi Launches Rajasthan Projects and Opens Jodhpur Airport Terminal
Infrastructure – India’s infrastructure expansion received a fresh push on Saturday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport and began a packed schedule of development-related events across Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Aviation upgrade begins in Jodhpur
The Prime Minister arrived in Jodhpur to open the airport’s new terminal and introduce a revised aviation scheme. The terminal project is expected to improve passenger handling capacity and support growing air travel demand in western Rajasthan.
Officials said the visit forms part of a wider programme focused on transport, energy, urban infrastructure and technology-led manufacturing. The day’s announcements and foundation stone ceremonies cover projects valued at about Rs 1.06 lakh crore in Rajasthan.
Balotra event to feature major project announcements
After the Jodhpur programme, Modi is scheduled to travel to Balotra, where he will dedicate completed works, inaugurate new facilities and lay foundation stones for several projects. He is also expected to address a public gathering during the event.
A key part of the Balotra programme will be the inauguration ceremony linked to the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited refinery at Pachpadra. During the same occasion, the Prime Minister is expected to lay the foundation stone for Jaipur Metro Phase-2.
Jaipur Metro Phase-2 planned across 41 kilometres
The proposed Jaipur Metro Rail Project Phase-2 carries an estimated cost of Rs 13,037 crore. It will include a 41-km North-South corridor between Prahladpura and Todi Mod, according to government officials.
The planned route is intended to strengthen public transport access across Jaipur by linking industrial zones, residential neighbourhoods, commercial areas and key public facilities. The corridor is expected to cover major destinations such as Sitapura Industrial Area, Vishwakarma Industrial Area, Jaipur International Airport, Tonk Road, Sawai Man Singh Hospital, Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur Railway Station, Ambabari and Vidyadhar Nagar.
The project will have 36 metro stations. Authorities expect the expanded network to reduce pressure on busy road corridors and offer improved connectivity for daily commuters, workers, students and visitors travelling across the city.
Joint venture to implement metro expansion
The Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited will execute the Phase-2 project. The agency operates as a joint venture between the Union government and the Rajasthan government, with both sides holding equal stakes.
The metro expansion is part of the state’s broader urban mobility plans as Jaipur continues to grow in population, business activity and industrial development. The proposed corridor is designed to connect areas that currently depend heavily on road-based transport.
Semiconductor facility inauguration scheduled in Gujarat
Following his Rajasthan engagements, Modi will travel to Sanand in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where he is scheduled to inaugurate the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test facility. The event will mark the start of commercial production at the plant.
The project has been developed under the India Semiconductor Mission and is among the first four semiconductor projects approved through the initiative. The facility has received investment of more than Rs 7,500 crore.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi is expected to reach Sanand at around 4:30 pm and address a gathering after inaugurating the plant.
Plant to support chip assembly and testing operations
The CG Semi OSAT plant will provide semiconductor assembly and testing services across several stages of production. Its operations are planned to include wafer sorting, chip assembly, testing, package design, failure analysis, test programme development, product characterisation and logistics support.
The facility is expected to contribute to India’s effort to build domestic semiconductor capabilities and expand the country’s role in the global electronics manufacturing supply chain.
