EnforcementDirectorate –  The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has decided to formally participate in the court proceedings related to the alleged attack on its officials during a search operation connected to the CMRL-Exalogic investigation. The move comes shortly after one of the accused secured bail, adding a new legal dimension to the ongoing case.

ED Plans Legal Intervention

The central investigation agency has chosen to become a party in the case involving the alleged assault on its officials, who were reportedly attacked while leaving the residence where they had questioned Veena Vijayan. The residence, located in Thiruvananthapuram, is the rented home of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, where his daughter currently lives. Veena is among the accused in the CMRL-Exalogic financial investigation.

According to Pinarayi Vijayan, only Veena Vijayan was questioned during the visit conducted by ED officials in the final week of May. The alleged attack took place after the questioning had concluded and the officials were departing from the premises.

Bail Granted to One Accused

The latest development follows a Thiruvananthapuram court’s decision to grant bail to Harish Kumar, who has been named as the ninth accused in the attack case. In response, the ED is expected to file objections before the court after reviewing the circumstances surrounding the bail order.

Investigators are also examining the possible legal consequences of the decision, with officials assessing whether the bail granted to one accused could influence similar requests from others named in the case.

Police Review Prosecution Strategy

The bail order has also prompted an internal review within the Kerala Police. Senior police officials have reportedly expressed concern over how the prosecution handled the matter during the bail hearing.

The Museum Police have recommended appointing a Special Public Prosecutor instead of continuing with the present District Prosecutor. Reports indicate that the Station House Officer has written to the City Police Commissioner, requesting immediate action regarding the prosecution strategy.

Police sources further stated that preparations are underway to approach a higher court seeking cancellation of the bail granted to Harish Kumar.

Investigation Continues

During the court proceedings, the prosecution informed the judge that the accused was no longer required for custodial interrogation. Based on that submission, the court allowed the bail application.

The case originated from allegations that ED officials were assaulted while carrying out searches linked to the agency’s investigation into financial transactions involving Veena Vijayan in the CMRL-Exalogic matter.

The ED’s decision to actively participate in the legal proceedings reflects the importance it attaches to the case. Senior officials are understood to be reviewing the sequence of events following the court’s order and considering the next legal steps.

Focus Remains on Ongoing Proceedings

As the legal process advances, both the Enforcement Directorate and the Kerala Police are expected to maintain close coordination in pursuing the investigation. Authorities believe the coming stages of the proceedings could play a significant role in determining the future direction of the case.

The matter continues to attract considerable political and public attention across Kerala, with both the alleged financial transactions and the reported attack on central agency officials remaining under close scrutiny.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Veena Vijayan appeared before the ED’s Kochi office for her second round of questioning in connection with the ongoing investigation
