Security Verification – Police Probe Cab Platforms After South Delhi Child Murder Case
Security Verification – Authorities have widened their investigation into the employment records and background screening of a cab driver arrested in connection with the rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl in South Delhi.

Delhi Police have decided to issue formal notices to three major app-based cab aggregators associated with the accused, seeking detailed information about his hiring process, employment records, and the verification procedures followed before he was permitted to work on their platforms. The move comes as investigators continue to examine whether existing safety protocols were properly implemented.
Police Seek Employment and Verification Records
According to officials involved in the investigation, the accused, identified as 29-year-old Bashu Kumar Singh, had been working with three ride-hailing companies. Investigators have asked for documents related to his onboarding process, identity verification, employment history, and any background checks carried out before he was allowed to operate commercially.
The notices are expected to help authorities determine whether the cab aggregators complied with mandatory verification requirements while approving the driver to provide transport services through their applications.
Criminal Background Under Investigation
During the course of the investigation, police reportedly found that Singh had multiple criminal cases registered against him in Bihar. Officials said the records include five separate cases, among them two involving allegations of attempted murder.
Investigators are now examining whether details of these previous criminal cases were available during the hiring process and, if so, whether they were properly reviewed before granting him access to work as a commercial driver.
Focus on Safety Compliance
Police officials stated that the investigation is not limited to the criminal case alone. Authorities are also assessing whether the concerned platforms followed all applicable verification procedures intended to ensure passenger safety.
The outcome of this inquiry could help determine if there were any shortcomings in the screening process or whether existing compliance measures require stricter implementation. Officials believe that a thorough review of hiring practices is necessary, especially when commercial drivers interact with members of the public on a daily basis.
Arrest and Vehicle Details
The accused was arrested on Monday in connection with the alleged rape and murder of the minor girl in South Delhi. Investigators said he had been driving a rented hatchback since 2023 while working through multiple app-based cab services.
Police continue to gather documentary evidence and statements as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials have not indicated any conclusions regarding the responsibility of the cab aggregators, and the inquiry into the verification process remains in progress.
The case has drawn attention to the importance of rigorous background verification for drivers operating on digital transport platforms. Authorities are expected to review the information received from the companies before deciding on any further course of action
