US-India Relations – India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, recently held a series of important meetings with leading American business executives, technology experts, and security officials. The discussions focused on strengthening investment opportunities, advancing technology cooperation, improving supply chain networks, and enhancing counter-terrorism collaboration between the two countries.
Focus on Investment and Business Expansion
One of Ambassador Kwatra’s key engagements was with Chris Nicholas, President and Chief Executive Officer of Walmart. The meeting centered on Walmart’s ongoing investments in India, its future business strategy, and its long-term plans for growth in the country.
The discussions also covered efforts to build stronger and more reliable supply chains. As India continues to attract global investment, major international companies are increasingly looking at the country as a strategic market and manufacturing destination. In another significant meeting, Ambassador Kwatra met with Ylli Bajraktari, President and CEO of the Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP). The conversation took place ahead of Bajraktari’s upcoming visit to New Delhi for the India-US Forum, an event expected to highlight cooperation in emerging technologies.
The two leaders exchanged views on developments in advanced technology sectors, including artificial intelligence and quantum technologies. They also discussed future opportunities for collaboration as both countries seek to strengthen innovation-driven partnerships.
Technology cooperation has become a major pillar of India-US relations in recent years, with growing interest in research, digital infrastructure, and next-generation technological capabilities.
Counter-Terrorism Discussions Strengthen Security Ties
Alongside economic and technological engagement, Ambassador Kwatra also held talks with Sebastian Gorka, Deputy Assistant to the US President and Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council.
The meeting focused on evolving global terrorism threats and the importance of continued cooperation between India and the United States in addressing security challenges. Both sides reviewed ongoing counter-terrorism efforts and discussed commitments outlined in the India-US Joint Statement issued earlier in 2025.
The dialogue highlighted the increasing strategic coordination between New Delhi and Washington in matters related to national security and global stability.
Building on Leaders’ Strategic Commitments
The security discussions reflected commitments made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump during their summit held in February 2025. During that meeting, both leaders emphasized the need for stronger international action against terrorism and called for the elimination of terrorist safe havens worldwide.
The joint statement issued after the summit outlined several areas of cooperation, including intelligence sharing, security coordination, and collaborative efforts against internationally recognized terrorist organizations.
Both countries reaffirmed their determination to prevent future attacks and enhance measures aimed at protecting citizens from extremist violence.
Expanding Cooperation Against Global Threats
Recent developments have further demonstrated the growing depth of security cooperation between the two nations. The extradition of Tahawwur Rana, linked to the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, was viewed as a notable example of bilateral collaboration on justice and accountability.
The two governments have also continued to press for action against those responsible for major terrorist incidents, including the Mumbai attacks and the 2016 Pathankot air base attack. In addition, they have stressed the importance of preventing cross-border terrorism and ensuring that territories are not used to support extremist activities.
Beyond terrorism, India and the United States have committed to working together to prevent the spread of weapons of mass destruction and to stop such materials from falling into the hands of terrorist groups or non-state actors. These shared priorities continue to shape the broader strategic partnership between the two countries as they address emerging global security challenges.
