IndiaAid – Emergency Medical Support Reaches Congo Amid Ebola Response Efforts
IndiaAid – India has extended emergency medical assistance to support efforts aimed at controlling the Ebola outbreak in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), with African health authorities acknowledging the contribution as an important step in strengthening ongoing disease response operations.
The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) confirmed that a shipment of emergency diagnostics, therapeutic medicines, and other critical healthcare supplies provided by the Government of India has been received and prepared for deployment to affected regions.
Supplies Routed Through Uganda for Rapid Deployment
According to Africa CDC, the medical materials were delivered through its Eastern Regional Coordinating Centre based in Uganda before being directed toward outbreak response activities in eastern parts of the DRC. The agency noted that the assistance will help reinforce frontline healthcare operations and improve support for communities facing the impact of the Ebola outbreak.
In its public statement, Africa CDC expressed appreciation for the contribution and highlighted the importance of international cooperation during public health emergencies. The organization also thanked the Government and people of India for their continued support and solidarity with African nations.

As the public health institution of the African Union, Africa CDC plays a central role in coordinating disease surveillance, emergency preparedness, and outbreak response initiatives across the continent. The agency stated that international support remains essential in helping countries manage complex health challenges and reduce the spread of infectious diseases.
Officials indicated that the newly arrived medical supplies are expected to strengthen containment measures while supporting healthcare workers engaged in outbreak management activities.
India Confirms First Shipment of Emergency Medical Aid
India formally announced on May 29 that it had dispatched the first batch of emergency medical supplies to assist authorities dealing with the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola in the DRC. The move reflects New Delhi’s broader commitment to humanitarian cooperation and health partnerships across Africa.
Speaking during a weekly media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that the shipment had successfully reached Africa CDC through India’s diplomatic mission in Uganda.
Jaiswal stated that India remains committed to assisting African nations as they address the current health emergency. He added that the first consignment had already been delivered and emphasized that India would continue exploring ways to provide further support if required.
Essential Medical Materials Included in Shipment
Africa CDC reported that the donated supplies include a range of items needed for outbreak management. These comprise diagnostic equipment, treatment-related materials, infection prevention and control resources, as well as tools designed to support patient care and case management efforts.
The agency said the supplies would soon be distributed to communities and healthcare facilities in affected areas of eastern Congo, where response teams continue working to contain the spread of the disease.

Indian authorities have indicated that communication with African health institutions remains active as the Ebola response continues. Officials suggested that additional rounds of medical or logistical assistance could be considered depending on evolving needs on the ground.
