Education – The process of applying for the June 2026 session of the UGC-NET examination has triggered fresh concerns among students after several candidates reported repeated technical disruptions on the official registration portal. The complaints have once again raised questions about the reliability of digital systems used for conducting large-scale national examinations across the country.
Aspirants from different universities, including students from Delhi University, said they struggled for days to complete the online application due to server failures, slow response times, and interrupted submissions. Many students claimed that even after the National Testing Agency (NTA) extended the registration deadline from May 20 to May 23, the technical difficulties continued without significant improvement.
Students Seek Reopening of Registration Window
Candidates have approached the University Grants Commission (UGC), requesting authorities to reopen the application portal so affected students can submit their forms without pressure. According to several applicants, the online platform remained unstable during crucial days of the registration period, especially on May 18 and May 19, when users experienced frequent crashes and login failures.
Students alleged that the website became inaccessible for long durations, forcing many of them to repeatedly refresh pages or restart the process. Some said they had to spend several hours on tasks that are usually completed within minutes.
One applicant explained that even simple steps, such as uploading a photograph or signature in the required format, became difficult because the system repeatedly stopped responding. Others claimed the payment gateway also slowed down during peak hours, increasing anxiety among candidates nearing the submission deadline.

The latest complaints have renewed discussion over the preparedness of online examination infrastructure used for major entrance and eligibility tests. Students argued that technical instability during registration creates unnecessary stress, particularly for candidates applying from areas with limited internet connectivity.
Several aspirants said the situation was especially frustrating because the UGC-NET examination plays an important role in determining eligibility for assistant professorships, junior research fellowships, and academic careers across Indian universities. Delays and failed submissions, they added, can directly affect students’ future opportunities.

In 2022, technical disruptions during the examination process reportedly prevented some students from appearing for the test. Following widespread complaints at the time, authorities arranged separate examinations for candidates who were affected by the glitches.
The recurrence of such incidents has led many students to question whether sufficient upgrades have been made to handle heavy traffic during nationwide examination processes.
Authorities Yet to Issue Detailed Clarification
So far, the National Testing Agency has not released a detailed response addressing the latest complaints raised by students regarding the June 2026 application cycle. The agency had earlier stated that the extension of the registration deadline was granted after receiving requests from candidates.
Meanwhile, students continue to appeal for additional time and stronger technical support to ensure that no applicant is excluded due to system-related problems. Many candidates believe authorities should conduct stress testing and strengthen server capacity before opening registration for large-scale competitive examinations.
