Investigation – NIA Conducts Fresh Raids Across Shopian and Srinagar
Investigation – The National Investigation Agency carried out a series of searches in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, targeting multiple locations in Shopian and Srinagar as part of an ongoing investigation linked to banned organisations and suspected unlawful activities.

Officials familiar with the development said the agency began its operations during the early morning hours in Shopian district, where teams searched the premises of Darul Uloom Sirajul Uloom located in the Imam Sahib area. The institution, known for offering religious as well as formal academic education, caters to a large number of students from surrounding regions.
Searches Conducted at Educational Institution
The searches come nearly a month after Darul Uloom Sirajul Uloom was declared an unlawful entity by authorities. Security officials have not yet disclosed the specific grounds or evidence connected to the latest operation. However, the action is being viewed as part of a broader crackdown on organisations suspected of links to banned networks operating in the region.
Local sources said NIA officials inspected documents and questioned individuals present at the premises during the raid. The operation remained peaceful, and there were no immediate reports of detentions or disruptions in the area.
Former Jamaat-e-Islami Leader’s Residence Also Searched
In another coordinated move, a separate NIA team searched the residence of Shahzada Aurangzeb in the Molu Chitragam locality of Shopian district. Aurangzeb is known as a former chief associated with the banned Jamaat-e-Islami organisation in Jammu and Kashmir.
The agency has not publicly commented on whether any materials were seized during the search operation. Authorities also remained silent on whether the raids were connected to a fresh case or part of an ongoing investigation being handled by the central agency.
Security personnel maintained a presence around the area while the searches were underway. Residents reported heightened security movement during the morning, though normal activities resumed later in the day.
Srinagar Girls’ Religious School Under Scanner
Apart from Shopian, NIA teams also carried out searches in Srinagar’s Lal Bazar area. Officials confirmed that the agency visited Jamiat ul Banaat, a religious educational institution for girls operating in the city.
The purpose of the search has not yet been officially disclosed. Investigators are believed to be examining records and other materials as part of the operation. Authorities have so far refrained from releasing detailed statements regarding the findings from any of the locations searched.
The latest actions by the NIA highlight the continued focus of security agencies on monitoring institutions and individuals suspected of links with banned organisations or activities considered a threat to national security.
Authorities Yet to Release Detailed Statement
Despite the multiple operations carried out across the Valley, officials have maintained limited public communication about the raids. No arrests were announced till the filing of this report, and the agency has not shared information regarding any recovery or evidence collected during the searches.
The developments have once again drawn attention to ongoing security-related investigations in Jammu and Kashmir, where central agencies continue to conduct periodic operations aimed at tracking alleged unlawful networks and financial or organisational support structures.
