Bastar Development – Chhattisgarh Government Pushes Welfare Expansion in Remote Tribal Areas
Bastar Development- Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai held discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Thursday regarding ongoing development efforts and the evolving security conditions in Bastar, a region that has long faced challenges linked to Maoist activity.

During the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma also accompanied the chief minister as the state government presented its broader strategy aimed at connecting previously conflict-affected areas with mainstream public services and welfare programmes.
Public Service Centres Replacing Former Security Camps
One of the major points discussed was the conversion of former security camps into public welfare facilities known as Jan Suvidha Kendras. These centres are being developed to improve access to essential services for people living in remote tribal villages across Bastar.
According to the state government, the centres now offer healthcare assistance, banking facilities, educational support and registration for various government welfare schemes under a single roof. Officials believe this approach will help strengthen administrative reach in areas that had remained isolated for years due to insurgency-related issues.
The initiative is also being viewed as an effort to improve public trust by replacing symbols of conflict with institutions focused on community support and development.
Health Campaign Expands Across Interior Villages
Chief Minister Sai highlighted the progress made under the Mukhyamantri Swasth Bastar Abhiyan, which was launched on April 13, 2026. The campaign has already screened more than 2.18 million residents within its first month and created digital health records for people across the region.
Government officials said medical teams are now able to reach villages that earlier lacked even basic healthcare access. In several interior locations, residents are receiving health check-ups and treatment services for the first time in years.
Sai stated that the campaign is helping identify serious illnesses at an early stage while ensuring free medical care for affected residents. He also pointed to the recently operational super-specialty hospital in Jagdalpur, saying the facility would significantly reduce the need for patients to travel to cities such as Raipur, Bilaspur and Durg for advanced treatment.
Focus on Welfare Delivery and Infrastructure
Apart from healthcare, the state government also reviewed the progress of the Bastar Munne campaign, which aims to ensure complete implementation of 31 major welfare schemes across the region.
The roadmap shared during the meeting included plans for road expansion, stronger emergency response systems and better communication networks in previously inaccessible areas. Officials also discussed efforts related to employment generation, skill development and attracting investment opportunities to Bastar.
The government believes these measures will play an important role in restoring normal administration and economic activity in areas that had remained disconnected for years.
Centre Reviews Changing Situation in Bastar
Sources familiar with the discussions said Union Home Minister Amit Shah appreciated the progress presented by the Chhattisgarh government and assured continued support from the Centre for the long-term development of Bastar.
The meeting gains significance ahead of Shah’s proposed visit to the Bastar region on May 18 and 19, where he is expected to review ongoing development projects and assess the changing ground situation in the tribal belt.
Officials indicated that the combined focus on healthcare, infrastructure and welfare delivery is being positioned as part of a broader effort to improve living conditions and strengthen governance across the region.
