Diplomacy – Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting peace initiatives in West Asia during high-level talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
India’s prime minister began his five-nation diplomatic tour with a visit to the United Arab Emirates at a time when tensions continue to rise across the West Asian region. The discussions between the two leaders focused on regional security, economic cooperation, and the growing impact of geopolitical instability on global markets and trade.
Concerns Over Rising Regional Tensions
During the meeting, Modi strongly condemned the recent attacks targeting the UAE, describing such actions as unacceptable. The remarks came in the backdrop of escalating hostilities linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. The UAE, which hosts important international military and commercial infrastructure, has recently faced security threats amid the broader regional crisis.
The prime minister noted that the consequences of instability in West Asia are not limited to the region alone. According to him, the effects are being felt worldwide through disruptions in trade routes, energy markets, and economic confidence.
He also praised the UAE leadership for responding to the tense situation with restraint and balance despite increasing pressure in the region. Modi said the country’s calm handling of recent developments reflected responsible leadership during a difficult period.
India Reaffirms Support for Peace
Emphasising India’s diplomatic position, Modi said New Delhi remains prepared to offer “all possible support” toward efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in West Asia. India has consistently advocated dialogue, de-escalation, and diplomatic engagement in international conflicts, especially in regions critical to global energy and trade networks.
The discussions between the Indian and UAE leadership are being viewed as particularly significant because both countries share strong economic and strategic ties. The UAE remains one of India’s key partners in the Gulf region, with cooperation extending across sectors such as energy, investment, logistics, infrastructure, and technology.
Analysts believe the meeting also highlighted the growing importance of coordination between regional and global partners as instability in West Asia continues to influence international affairs.
Warm Reception for the Prime Minister
Prime Minister Modi was personally received at Abu Dhabi Airport by UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a gesture widely seen as reflecting the close relationship between the two leaders and the importance attached to the visit by the Emirati leadership.
The Indian leader was also accorded a ceremonial guard of honour upon arrival. The welcome ceremony underlined the strengthening partnership between the two nations, which has expanded considerably in recent years through trade agreements, investment initiatives, and strategic cooperation.
Soon after arriving in Abu Dhabi, Modi shared a message on social media expressing gratitude to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for the warm reception. Referring to the UAE president as his “brother,” Modi said he looked forward to productive discussions aimed at further deepening bilateral relations.
Focus on Economic and Strategic Cooperation
Apart from regional security concerns, the two leaders discussed opportunities to strengthen collaboration in key sectors including energy security, supply chains, investments, and emerging industries. India and the UAE have increasingly worked together to improve economic connectivity and boost bilateral trade under their expanding strategic partnership framework.
The UAE continues to be among India’s most significant trading partners in the Gulf region, while India remains one of the largest expatriate communities living and working in the Emirates.
Modi’s UAE visit marks the opening phase of his broader international tour, which will also include visits to four European nations over the coming days.
