HealthNews – Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s stepbrother Prateek Yadav passed away unexpectedly in Lucknow on Wednesday morning at the age of 38. His death has drawn condolences from leaders across political circles and has deeply saddened family members and supporters.
Medical Emergency Reported Early Morning
According to officials from Syama Prasad Mookerjee Hospital, also known as Civil Hospital, medical authorities received information around 5 am regarding a serious deterioration in Prateek Yadav’s health. A team of doctors immediately reached his residence and later shifted him to the hospital for treatment.
Doctors declared him dead at approximately 5:55 am. Sources familiar with the matter stated that Prateek was reportedly found unconscious in the kitchen area of his residence earlier in the morning, prompting urgent medical intervention.
At the time of the incident, his wife Aparna Yadav, a BJP leader, was reportedly out of Lucknow. Family members confirmed that the final rites are scheduled to take place in the city on Thursday afternoon.
Post-Mortem Findings Reveal Cardiac Arrest
The body was later sent to King George’s Medical University for post-mortem examination. Medical findings indicated that Prateek Yadav died due to sudden cardiac arrest.
The autopsy report also mentioned the presence of massive pulmonary thromboembolism, a serious medical condition caused when a blood clot travels through the bloodstream and blocks arteries in the lungs. Doctors consider the condition life-threatening because it can disrupt blood circulation and severely affect breathing and heart function within minutes.
Medical observations in the report further noted multiple antemortem injuries on the body. Some of these injuries were estimated to have occurred four to five days before his death, while others appeared to be more recent.
Political Leaders Offer Condolences
Soon after the news emerged, several senior political leaders reached the Yadav family residence in Lucknow to pay their respects. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the family along with BJP state president Pankaj Chaudhury and Finance Minister Suresh Khanna.
Leaders from different political backgrounds expressed sorrow over the untimely death. The incident also witnessed rare moments of unity as members from both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Samajwadi Party extended condolences to the grieving family.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav reacted emotionally to the sudden loss of his stepbrother. Speaking to media persons, he described Prateek as a hardworking and sincere individual who wanted to build his own identity through dedication and personal effort.
Akhilesh Yadav also hinted that business-related difficulties and financial setbacks may have contributed to stress in recent times, potentially affecting Prateek’s mental and physical health. However, no official confirmation regarding these aspects has been issued by authorities.
Family members and close associates remembered Prateek Yadav as someone who preferred maintaining a relatively private life despite belonging to one of Uttar Pradesh’s most prominent political families.

The sudden demise has triggered widespread reactions across Uttar Pradesh, particularly in Lucknow where the Yadav family has longstanding political and social influence. Supporters, acquaintances and political workers gathered outside the family residence throughout the day to offer condolences.
Prateek Yadav remained largely away from active politics, unlike several members of his extended family. Nevertheless, his connection to both the Samajwadi Party leadership and BJP leader Aparna Yadav kept him in public attention over the years.
Authorities have not indicated any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and medical findings currently point toward natural health complications as the primary cause.
