Chief Minister Blames Administrative Changes for Incident

Speaking at a rally in Paschim Bardhaman, Banerjee claimed that the transfer of several police officers by the Election Commission had weakened her government’s control over law enforcement. According to her, these changes played a role in the unrest witnessed during the religious procession.

She alleged that officers brought in from outside were not familiar with the local situation and accused them of contributing to tensions rather than maintaining order. In her address, she emphasized that her authority had been significantly reduced due to these transfers and insisted that responsibility should not be attributed to her government alone.

Banerjee also made strong remarks regarding the violence, questioning those involved in acts of vandalism and unrest. She stated that those responsible for damaging property and disturbing peace would eventually face accountability under the law.

Emphasis on Communal Harmony

During her speech, Banerjee highlighted her party’s commitment to maintaining unity among different communities. She noted that members of her party actively participate in festivals across religions, including Ram Navami, Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Chhath Puja, Christmas, and Eid.

She stressed that people from diverse religious and social backgrounds in the state have historically celebrated together, and her administration supports this inclusive approach. Her remarks appeared aimed at reinforcing a message of communal harmony amid rising political tensions.

Details of the Raghunathganj Incident

The violence in Raghunathganj, located in the Murshidabad district, occurred during a Ram Navami procession. Reports indicate that clashes broke out at multiple locations, involving groups from different communities.

The situation escalated quickly, leading to damage to shops and local establishments. Instances of looting and arson were also reported, and several individuals sustained injuries during the clashes. The unrest created panic in the area before authorities intervened.

Security Forces Restore Order

Following the incident, both local police and central security forces were deployed to bring the situation under control. Officials confirmed that additional personnel were sent to the affected areas to prevent further escalation.

Ajit Singh Yadav, the Deputy Inspector General of the region, stated that law enforcement agencies are actively working to identify those involved. Surveillance footage is being examined, and multiple teams have been assigned to conduct raids in connection with the case.

He added that the situation has since stabilized, with normal traffic movement resuming in the area. However, security presence remains heightened to ensure continued peace.
