Crime – Mumbai Man Arrested for Wife’s Murder Disguised as Suicide
Crime – A shocking case of alleged murder disguised as suicide has emerged from Mumbai’s Powai area, where a 40-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly orchestrating the killing of his wife with the help of hired accomplices. What initially appeared to be a case of suicide has now unfolded into a carefully planned crime following a detailed police investigation.

Allegations Point to Planned Killing
According to police officials, the accused, identified as Sakharam Chaudhary, is a hardware shop owner residing in the Chandivali locality. He allegedly conspired with three men to murder his 35-year-old wife, Geeta Chaudhary. The crime was reportedly carried out in their Powai apartment, after which the accused attempted to make it look like she had taken her own life by hanging.
Investigators revealed that Chaudhary had paid approximately Rs 6.7 lakh to the accomplices—Shankar Dangi, Babu Gayri, and Dinesh Gayri—to execute the plan. All four individuals have now been taken into custody by Mumbai Police.
Multiple Failed Attempts Before Crime
Police sources indicated that this was not the first attempt on the victim’s life. The accused had allegedly tried to kill his wife on three previous occasions, but those efforts did not succeed. This pattern of repeated attempts strengthened suspicions of premeditation during the investigation.
Authorities believe the motive behind the crime was linked to Chaudhary’s alleged relationship with another woman. Investigators are currently examining this angle further to establish the full extent of the motive.
Family Life and Background
The couple had been married for several years and were parents to two children, aged 12 and 5. Neighbours and acquaintances reportedly expressed shock at the incident, describing the family as seemingly normal from the outside.
The accused lived with his family in Sangharsh Nagar, Chandivali, and managed a local hardware business. Police officials stated that there had been no immediate outward signs of such a serious domestic conflict prior to the incident.
Investigation Took a Critical Turn
The case took a significant turn when the victim’s father raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death. Unsatisfied with the initial findings, he requested a second post-mortem examination.
The subsequent medical report confirmed that the cause of death was strangulation, contradicting the earlier claim of suicide by hanging. This crucial evidence prompted police to re-examine the case, leading to the arrest of the accused and his alleged accomplices.
Police Confirm Premeditated Nature of Crime
Officials from Sakinaka Police Station stated that the investigation uncovered clear signs of a planned murder. The staging of the crime scene to resemble suicide was part of an attempt to mislead authorities and avoid suspicion.
Further inquiries are ongoing to gather additional evidence and establish the sequence of events leading up to the crime. Police are also working to determine if there were any other individuals involved or aware of the plan.
Legal Proceedings Underway
All accused individuals are currently in police custody, and legal proceedings have been initiated. Authorities are preparing to present the findings in court, supported by forensic evidence and statements collected during the investigation.
The case highlights the importance of thorough investigation in uncovering hidden crimes and ensuring justice for victims.
