Weather – Delhi Sees Light Rainfall After Intense Showers Last Week
Weather – Delhi experienced light to moderate rainfall during the early hours of Monday, offering a brief pause after several days of heavy showers across the national capital. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), weather conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy on Tuesday, with chances of intermittent light rain later in the week.
Rainfall Pattern Brings Temporary Relief
The recent spell of rain has brought noticeable relief from the rising temperatures that had gripped the city earlier. Just days ago, Delhi was recording temperatures close to 38–39 degrees Celsius. However, consistent rainfall has helped cool down the atmosphere, creating more comfortable conditions for residents.
The IMD had earlier issued a yellow alert, warning of light rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour. These weather changes were observed across several parts of the city, leading to a drop in daytime temperatures and improved overall comfort levels.
Forecast for the Coming Days
Looking ahead, the IMD has indicated that while Tuesday will likely remain partly cloudy, very light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning could occur on March 26 and again on March 29. These brief weather disturbances are expected to be scattered and not as intense as the rainfall witnessed last week.
Such fluctuations are typical during seasonal transitions, where sudden cloud formations and localized showers become more frequent. Residents are advised to stay updated with daily forecasts, especially due to the possibility of thunderstorms and gusty winds.
Temperature Trends Show Gradual Rise
On Monday, the minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 17.8 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature ranged between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius. This marked a significant drop compared to the previous week’s heat.
However, a gradual rise in temperature is expected to resume. For Tuesday, the maximum temperature is predicted to climb to between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius. This indicates that while the rain has provided temporary relief, warmer conditions are likely to return in the coming days.
Air Quality Remains in Moderate Category
Despite the recent rainfall, Delhi’s air quality continues to remain in the moderate category. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 132.
According to CPCB standards, an AQI between 101 and 200 falls under the moderate category. While this level does not pose immediate health risks for most individuals, sensitive groups such as children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions may still experience mild discomfort.
The rainfall has helped prevent a further rise in pollution levels, but sustained improvements in air quality will depend on consistent weather patterns and reduced emissions.
Seasonal Shift Continues
The recent changes in Delhi’s weather highlight the ongoing seasonal transition, where fluctuating temperatures, cloud cover, and occasional rainfall are common. While the showers have temporarily eased the heat, the forecast suggests that warmer conditions will gradually return, accompanied by isolated weather disturbances.
