The seizure was made during a coordinated search operation conducted by the Border Security Force and local police in a forward village of the R S Pura sector. Officials said the action followed specific intelligence inputs suggesting that a drone had crossed the border and dropped a consignment in the area.

Joint Operation Based on Specific Intelligence

According to officials familiar with the development, security personnel intensified surveillance after receiving credible information about suspicious aerial activity from across the border. A joint team of BSF personnel and police officers launched a systematic search in agricultural fields and adjoining areas of the village.

During the operation, two packets were located and later confirmed to contain heroin. The contraband was immediately seized and secured as part of the investigation process. Authorities did not disclose the exact location of the recovery for security reasons but confirmed that the area falls under heightened monitoring due to repeated drone-related incidents.

Officials described the recovery as a significant blow to cross-border narcotics networks that have increasingly relied on drones to transport illegal substances into Indian territory.

Case Registered, Investigation Underway

Police have formally registered a case under relevant sections of the law and initiated further investigation to trace the individuals linked to the smuggling attempt. Senior officers stated that efforts are underway to identify both local handlers and foreign-based operatives who may have coordinated the delivery.

Investigators are examining technical evidence and communication trails to establish how the drone movement was facilitated and who was expected to collect the dropped consignment. Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to tightening vigilance along vulnerable stretches of the International Border.

Arrests in Separate Drone Smuggling Case

The latest seizure comes just a day after police arrested two individuals in connection with another drone-based heroin smuggling case in the border region of Kathua district.

The accused have been identified as Jatin, a resident of Pathankot in Punjab, and Danish Dogra, also known as Sajan, from Jakhbar in Kathua. They were taken into custody following the recovery of approximately 150 grams of heroin near the Nagri area.

According to police sources, the duo was allegedly involved in coordinating the collection of narcotics dropped by drones operating from across the border. Investigators revealed that the suspects were in contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler and had communicated using Voice over Internet Protocol calls in an attempt to avoid detection.

Authorities believe that the use of encrypted internet-based communication platforms and drones reflects a growing shift in smuggling tactics. Security agencies have been adapting their countermeasures accordingly, deploying advanced surveillance equipment and enhancing coordination between central and local forces.

Rising Drone Activity Along the Border

Officials have noted an increase in incidents involving drones attempting to ferry narcotics, arms, and other contraband across the border. The use of unmanned aerial vehicles has posed new challenges for law enforcement, particularly in rural and agricultural areas where visibility may be limited at night.

Security agencies have stepped up night patrols and electronic monitoring systems in response to these evolving threats. Officers stated that timely intelligence sharing and coordinated field action played a crucial role in preventing the latest consignment from reaching its intended recipients.

Further investigations are ongoing in both cases, and authorities have indicated that more arrests may follow as the probe progresses.
