As commander-in-chief of the armed forces, the president of Taiwan pledged to preserve the nation and all people’ lives and property, according to Focus Taiwan.President Lai said, “I will undoubtedly protect the country and will not permit Chinese pressure or its hand to enter Taiwan.”

Additionally, he said on Thursday that China’s “cross-border pressure” on Taiwanese citizens demonstrates that Taiwan is not a part of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and that Beijing’s power does not extend to Taiwan.

According to Focus Taiwan, Lai mentioned the recent visit to Taiwan by Japanese lawmaker Hei Seki, who was born in China and has been sanctioned by China and is not allowed to enter the PRC. He claimed that the visit showed that the PRC and the official name of the Republic of China (ROC) Taiwan are not subordinate to one another.

His comments were made in the context of China’s Taiwan Affairs Office designating Taiwan’s Education Minister Cheng Ying-yao and Interior Minister Liu Shyh-fang as “diehard Taiwan independence elements.” According to Focus Taiwan, a prosecutor from the Taiwan High Prosecutors government was also accused by the same Chinese government of being a “Taiwan independence thug accomplice.”Before attending a ceremony marking the conclusion of training for new hires at the Ministry of Justice’s Investigation Bureau, the Taiwanese president stated, “Whether it is Cheng Ying-yao, Liu Shyh-fang, the prosecutor with the last name Chen, or other officials or elected representatives, all can stand at their posts and strive for the country, without fear of China’s threats.”

The president of Taiwan expressed his hope that China’s authorities would realize that military exercises aimed against Taiwan are not nonviolent acts. He also said that China’s “united front” infiltration and cross-border repression would not succeed in uniting Taiwan with China.
