The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, and initial medical findings suggest drowning as the cause of death. Incident During Post-Exam Outing
The deceased, Harshit Bhatt, was a final-year Bachelor of Physical Education student at a private university. He lived in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad. On the day of the incident, Bhatt had visited Sector 94 with a group of friends to mark the completion of their examinations. The location falls under the jurisdiction of the Sector 126 police station.
Police stated that during the outing, Bhatt entered a nearby pit filled with water, reportedly to bathe. Moments later, he began to struggle and eventually submerged.
Rescue Efforts and Medical Findings
One of Bhatt’s friends immediately contacted emergency services by dialing 112. Police teams and patrol vehicles arrived quickly at the scene. With assistance from local divers, Bhatt was retrieved from the water and rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Authorities confirmed that sand and water were present in his lungs, indicating drowning as the primary cause of death. The viscera has been preserved for further forensic examination to rule out any additional factors.
Officials also noted that a few of Bhatt’s friends had entered the water in an attempt to rescue him. They were later brought to safety and are currently reported to be in stable condition.
Family Raises Questions Over Circumstances
Despite the initial findings, Bhatt’s family has raised concerns about possible foul play. His mother claimed that there were visible dark marks on his body, which she believes warrant a deeper investigation.
Police officials have acknowledged the family’s concerns but clarified that no formal complaint has been filed so far. They added that appropriate action will be taken if a complaint is submitted. Preliminary inquiries suggest that Bhatt may have ventured into deeper water, making it difficult for his friends to pull him out in time.
