AGRA: “How can a police officer vanish?”: A UP inspector disappears after a confrontation with his wife; the mother pleads with HC for clarification

AGRA: A distraught Sushila Devi, 66, is sitting outside the Allahabad High Court complex with her family, hoping to locate her 36-year-old son, an inspector in the UP Police, who vanished on September 17 after reportedly being taken up by Aligarh police after a fight with his wife. She is placing her hopes on the HC, which is hearing her habeas corpus case on Wednesday, with her eyes focused on the court and a quiet prayer.

“I’m sick and weary of always searching for my kid. In Aligarh, I saw top police officials, but nobody told me anything. How can a policeman disappear for three months? Why must I ask HC for assistance in finding my son? Three days after we transferred HC, on October 18 at 8:26 p.m., the missing case was entered into the general diary (GD). For a month, what were they doing? She spoke heartily to TOI.

“I don’t even know whether he’s still alive. I hope for his safe return every day. According to the police, my son and his wife got into a fight. What the heck? Does this imply that they won’t look for him? I’m hoping HC can assist in locating my kid.
“Since the family has made some serious claims, a thorough investigation is on,” said DIG (Aligarh Range) Prabhakar Chaudhary.

On September 17, Inspector Anuj Kumar vanished while assigned to Aligarh.

However, according to police sources, he was suspended on September 19 for “misbehaving with seniors” and the family was notified.

Police said that preliminary investigation suggests the “mutilated body” of a man discovered on the railroad lines on Monday, December 8, is that of the missing inspector.

According to documents obtained by TOI, after the HC concluded at least two sessions of the habeas corpus case and sent letters to the parties involved, including Aligarh SSP, the GD entry submitted on October 18 was changed into a FIR on November 12. The Mahua Kheda police station filed the FIR in accordance with BNS Section 140(3) (kidnapping). On November 13, J N Asthana, the DSP of Hathras’s Sikandarao circle, received the inquiry.

“Investigation is underway,” Asthana told TOI. We have not received a response from Kumar’s mother’s side or his wife’s side. Additionally, we have looked for DNA test samples.

After his father passed away while on duty in 2012, Kumar joined the UP Police on humanitarian grounds, according to Aligarh police sources. Even after four years of marriage, the couple had no children, which contributed to the frequent arguments between the husband and wife.
