Agra: After an extensive search and rescue operation that lasted more than 36 hours, the body of a 6-year-old child was found in a 50-foot well

AGRA: A six-year-old kid was discovered dead late on Saturday, almost 36 hours after a large search by professional divers and rescue teams. The youngster reportedly tripped and fell down a 50-foot-deep water-filled village well while attempting to collect his football at 11 a.m. on Friday in Agra.

“On Saturday evening, an NDRF team from Ghaziabad was called in,” ACP Ram Pravesh Gupta informed TOI. The child’s corpse was discovered in the well. We exerted every effort. However, the water level was steadily increasing and there was a lot of silt at the bottom.

“There was no appropriate boundary wall around the decades-old well,” a site official said. Nearly half of it was submerged in water, and it was rather deep. Additionally, a river is about 300 meters away. Draining the well was thus becoming challenging. In actuality, ongoing pumping has caused ten to fifteen bighas of cropland to flood. Mud, silt, and increasing water pressure hindered rescue workers’ attempts to enter the tiny well shaft.

Locals said that the event happened on Friday morning when farmer Ram Gopal accompanied his son Rihansh to the agricultural field in Bakanda Khas hamlet in the Kiraoli neighborhood of Agra.

Rihansh was playing football by himself when he fell into the well. Their worst suspicions were confirmed when the villagers subsequently saw the floating ball within the well. District administration officials, local police, and firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after.

Equipped with oxygen cylinders and massive pumps, divers from the specialized SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) and PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) teams made many attempts to descend, but were thwarted by thick silt and pressure from below. The town was in shock after the tragic event, and hundreds of people gathered at the well site as rescue efforts continued.
