Accident – Three Killed, Two Critically Injured in Shahjahanpur Fog Crash
Accident – A devastating road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district claimed the lives of three people and left two others seriously injured after a car crashed head-on into a state transport bus amid thick fog early Wednesday morning, police officials said.

Fatal Collision Near Sugsugi Turn
According to police authorities, the victims were travelling in a car from Lakhimpur Kheri toward Etawah when the accident took place near the Sugsugi turn in the Allahganj area of Shahjahanpur district. The stretch of road is known for its sharp bend and proximity to the Ramganga river, which can make driving conditions difficult, especially during winter fog.
Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi confirmed that the car collided directly with an oncoming state transport bus while negotiating the curve. The impact of the crash was severe, leaving the car badly damaged and its occupants trapped inside.
Victims Identified by Police
Police identified the three people who died at the scene as Arun, 30, Rishabh Kumar, 32, and Sanjay Kumar, 28. All three were residents of Hyderabad town in Lakhimpur Kheri district.
Authorities said the men died instantly due to the force of the collision. Their bodies were later recovered from the wreckage and sent for post-mortem examination as part of the legal procedures.
Two Survivors Hospitalised with Serious Injuries
Two other occupants of the car, identified as Anil and Gaurav, survived the crash but sustained critical injuries. Police teams and local residents rushed to the site soon after the accident was reported and transported the injured men to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Officials said both victims remain under medical care and their condition is being closely monitored by doctors.
Dense Fog Likely Contributed to the Crash
Investigators believe that heavy fog and poor visibility in the early hours of the morning may have played a major role in the accident. During winter months, dense fog frequently affects highways across parts of Uttar Pradesh, often reducing visibility to only a few metres.
The accident occurred near a sharp bend along the road that runs close to the Ramganga river. According to police, drivers approaching the curve may have difficulty spotting oncoming vehicles when visibility is severely limited.
Authorities said the combination of thick fog and the dangerous curve likely prevented both drivers from reacting in time to avoid the collision.
Bus Seized, Driver Missing
Following the incident, police seized the state transport bus involved in the crash as part of their investigation. However, the bus driver reportedly fled the scene immediately after the accident and has not yet been located.
Police teams are currently working to trace the driver and gather further details about the circumstances leading up to the crash. Officials said additional investigation is underway to determine whether speed, visibility conditions, or other factors contributed to the incident.
Meanwhile, local authorities have urged motorists to exercise extra caution while driving during foggy conditions, particularly on roads with sharp bends and limited visibility.
