On Saturday, Rohit Sharma became the oldest Indian cricketer to win the “Player of the Series” Award, surpassing Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s record.
Rohit broke the record set by MS Dhoni, who won the award against Australia in 2019 at the age of 37 years and 194 days, by winning it at 38 years and 178 days.
With 21 knocks to the boundary ropes and five over it, Rohit amassed 202 runs from his three appearances in the ODI series against Australia, averaging 101 at a strike rate of 85.59.
India vs. Australia: Highlights of the Third ODI
In addition to earning “Player of the Series,” Rohit won “Player of the Match” after reaching his 50th international century, while Virat Kohli led India to a nine-wicket victory in the third ODI on Saturday with a brilliant performance that may have been their last game in Australia.
Rohit (121 not out) and Kohli (74 not out) combined for 168 runs in only 170 balls for the second wicket, bringing India to 237 for 1 in 38.3 overs after Harshit Rana and the bowlers’ amazing performance held Australia to a respectable 236.
Even though Australia won the three-match series 2-1, Rohit and Kohli’s iconic innings pleased the ecstatic Sydney audience and kept the team from suffering a humiliating defeat.
Kohli looked like a mathematician painstakingly working through a challenging issue, while Rohit was all fluidity and self-assured shot-making.
In addition to his 12 Test hundreds and five T20I hundreds, Rohit completed his 33rd ODI hundred with 50 runs off only 42 balls after reaching his half-century in 63 balls.
