Virat Kohli: According to the most recent ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings has regained his top rank

Virat Kohli:  the star batsman for India, has regained his top status in the ICC Men’s Rankings after his 93-run performance in Sunday’s opening three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand in Vadodara.

With 785 rating points, Kohli is currently one spot ahead of Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand, who is in second position with 784 points, in the ICC ODI Batters rankings.

Since July 2021, the renowned cricket player has not held the top place in the ODI rankings till now.

According to the ICC website, Kohli has been at the top of the rankings for 11 different times, having first done so in October 2013. He has spent 825 days at the peak so far, which is the most for an Indian and the tenth longest for any player globally.

Since the last game of the Australia vs. India ODI series in October of last year, Virat Kohli has been playing at a very high level. In each of his previous seven 50-over games, he has scored fifty or more. 93, 77 (Vijay Hazare Trophy), 131 (Vijay Hazare Trophy), 65, 102, 135, and 74 are his last seven scores.

Kohli was India’s top run scorer in 2025 after playing in 13 ODI games and scoring 651 runs at a stellar average of 65.10.

In the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 competition, Kohli excelled as well, scoring 218 runs at an average of 54.50 in five games. In the competition, he scored a century and a half.

Kohli was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his 93 in the India vs. New Zealand 2nd ODI, helping lead the Men in Blue to victory as they chased a 301-run total.

With the 93-run innings, Kohli now has 1,091 runs in more than 300 successful ODI chases, averaging 121.22 and hitting at 125.25, including two fifties and seven hundreds.

In addition to being the second-most prolific scorer in international cricket, behind Sachin Tendulkar, Kohli’s performance against New Zealand made him the quickest player to achieve 28,000 runs across all forms. His total runs in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is presently stand at 28,068.
